Boss at Bedtime
Im having a problem getting Buster to get in HIS bed!!He is the most obidient dog i have ever known but when it comes to sleeping arrangements hes the boss!On a night time he sneeks off into the bedroom and goes to sleep on the bed then when we go to bed he refuses to shift!!This is probably my fault as i normally leave him because id have to tell him 100x before he will move but its getting too much having to stroke him till we fall asleep.I have tried to leave him the rest of the house but he howls and cries and sometimes wees which is never a problem normally....do you think buster maybe playing games with me ?? xx

These guys are great at whining and crying to get there way for sure.It sounds like he has some separation anxiety if he is weeing so you may need to take a more gradual approach. Have you tried putting his bed on your bed to get the process started? If you can get him to do that you should be able to move the bed to the floor and get him to sleep there.

ohh dear lol .. cant say i have ever had this problem as my dogs have always known whats theres is theres and whats ours is ours etc, they sleep on THERE beds (my rescue dog was no exception).
Have you thought about crate training? .. you can get large crates and its never to late to teach him that its where he sleeps not on your bed etc.

Yes sounds like he is trying to be the boss!!
Staffys will do anything to try to get their own way !
I know from experience! Could you put the bed or basket that he should be sleeping in in your bedroom, so when he goes in there at night he might just go into his own bed?

Re: Boss at Bedtime
We do have a bed for him and we take it in the bedroom but he starts to ignore us when we speak.I thought he might have been scared when alone because of him weeing this is why im finding it difficult to leave him alone. It may seem ridiculous but the only thing we dont share is food when we are eating.Iv never really liked the idea of crates/cages as i see Buster as an equal to me.Buster is very much more like a child than a dog and i do realise i i must to be stricter with him its just soo hard lol x

Re: Boss at Bedtime
Moo is the same, her beds are now under mine, redundant, she'll go to bed before me, as she wanders off she looks at me as if she's gonna be there first! I don't mind, I'm singal and she fits in the bed, heaven help me if we ever have to share I know its my fault but thats just us!

Re: Boss at Bedtime
itll may start to other things thow like eating ect or going thru the door first its all down to being the dominant one, so try to get him out off it and put him back in his place, this is only my view on things cus ive been there and had all the dominance thing with previous dogs, plus aint you hot in this weather all in the same bed

Re: Boss at Bedtime
Well thinking about it he barges me out of the way wen going through doors and he walks infront of me if his dad has hold of his lead.he is very dominant towards me but he's also extremely protective of me.think I need to nip this in the bud.thankyou so much for the advice he's my first dog and I want to treat him best I can x
