Waxy ears!?
Just a quick Q: Has anyone else every experienced ear infections with their staffies? Our youngest George had to visit the vet yesterday as he had obviously hurt/ was uncomfortable with his left ear and Vet said he was unusually waxy! After some cleaning he was prescribed anti-biotics to help the infection but she said it was very unusual as staffies have smaller ears which allows the air flow and prevents this sort of thing. :/
We have had two other staffies who have never had this 'too much wax' issue before, is it just him?

Mines prone to them, she has small ear canals, seems to happen every 4 months ish, although last time I acctually carried on with the cleaner (might have been a good idea to start b4!) and she hasn't had one in a while. It always clears up in a week but its getting £££££££!

Re: Waxy ears!?
Thank you Janey!
thought it was just him! Yea the cleaner was £10 alone and the vet said we need to keep using it once a week!! wowsers it will be ££££££ if its once a week
It is expensive to keep them tip-top but I guess humans are prone to ailments too

Re: Waxy ears!?
Yes! I told the vet George was an investment to me- he pays me back with sloppy kisses and his charm!
That's alot of money, what do you use to clean, just warm water and cotton wool? (not buds- buds are a no-no)

Haven't got the stuff with me but its just the cleaning solution that they give (should I say charge) you for after you put the antibiotics in. its over the counter stuff at the vets, and no no cotton buds lol!

Re: Waxy ears!?
my dog when young used to get alot of black stuff in the ears i just used to get ear drops off the vets for around £10
Re: Waxy ears!?
Haven't had the problem with Suki yet but I'm sure we will. She HATES getting her ears cleaned and insists that we don't do it. If she is in the shower we can wipe them out with a rag but other than that

Re: Waxy ears!?
i used to get stuff like eye drops you did a couple of drops in the ears and it used to clean up pretty fast
Re: Waxy ears!?
We usually use a sneak attack with the ear drops at least once a week just in case.

Re: Waxy ears!?
excellent stuff! Thanks and Im pleased its more common than she said- george has black sticky wax too Vet said he's prone to getting them so looks like a weekly clean for him!
He doesn't like it but we sneak up on him then he gets a treat- maybe he'll get used to it
