bad ears .....
hi my APBT kenzi has had realy bad ears since she was a pup. i have taken her to the vets an they gave me some ears drops, they dont seem to work as 5 years later i am still haveing the same problems. every day i clean her ears out with salt water as this seems to resolve the problem throught out the day. i just wounderd if any 1 else has had these problems, if so any suggestions on how to resolve would be very much apreciated. thanks

Re: bad ears .....
Hi , well as far as the ears are concerned I wouldn't have let it go on for 5 years without seeking a 2nd opinion from a different vet, that would be my recommendation for you.
2nd Please don't shout on here you own an APBT , this would be highly doubtful as you know they are a banned breed in the UK and talk like this will only attract unwanted attention

if the ear are like that all time no air is getting in and making problems all you can do is keep going to the vet to ear drops

Re: bad ears .....
Deep ear flush, skin scrape and analysis - you'll have an answer then.
No point guessing what might be wrong.

if i leave her hear for a day or 2 then it starts to irratate her an when she shakes her head, like dirt or summert discharges from her ear an gose every where and it has a realy strong smell to it however if i clean them every day this dose not happen. and the vet wont do that they just check her hear say its ear mites an when i take her back they say their is nothing else they can do

Re: bad ears .....
You could try getting some Thornit - used to be called Canker Powder. Old fashioned remedy, but may help.

im not too sure wazza ill find 1 of the bottles and i wil let you know mate. and anno its annyoing now tbh ive spoken to other people about it and they are saying its because when she is out on the feild and dirt gets in her ears because her ears flop she carnt get all the dirt out when she shakes her head and that causes it, he has the same breed an he keeps getting told the same thing as i do from the vets an he was the 1 who told me to clean her ears with salt water.

Re: bad ears .....
Ive heard some dogs are prone to ear mites and most dogs have them her ear canal might be very narrow and a great place to breed you could try advocate drops every so often on the back of her neck see if that keeps them at bay or a drop or 2 of olive oil sorry not much helpkenzi-APBT wrote:they keep telling me they think it might be ear mites

Go to the Vet again and ask for the above to be done. when you have the analysis of the ear scrape your Vet will know what treatment to give your dog.

Re: bad ears .....
Poor thing ... 5 years later and still has an ear problem .
Dont clean the ear with water, as the water doesn't evaporate quick enough, and if it gets down deep into the ear canal the ear remains moist + the warm environment in the ear this equals perfect breeding grounds for ear mites.
You need to get a alcohol based ear cleaner from either the vets or one of the pet online chemists.
Clean the ear morning and night with this, even if the ear visual dont look dirty still clean it.
As suggested get some thornits and after each clean with the new ear cleaner sprinkle thornits in the ear opening ( not deep into the ear)
If the ear flaps are red and sore from the constant scratching smoother them with Sudocreme. Continue to do this each day until the thickening of the skin inside the ear looks to be improving.
I would also change your dogs diet, as a wheat based food is the culprit to reocurring ear infections.
Good luck and let us know how it goes
