Re: poor maddie
The pup will settle in. She is probally just nervous with her new surroundings. your older dog will teach her the rules Must be a stressfull time for you though.

Re: poor maddie
its VERY early days .. it can take weeks maybe months for them to get used to each other properly, Vinnie took a few weeks to get used to skye properly and stop pestering her now they are inseparable .. if your older dog didnt want the pup in the house he/she would of made the perfectly clear by now.

Re: poor maddie
We went through this introducing Blake to Chloe, she wouldn't even drink.... it took 3 days for her to sip water and eat fresh chicken... It gets better, we had Blake 7 weeks now Chloe is eating normally now, we still have a few growls and chases nothing serious though. Blake is deaf which adds to the problems at times, you'll be fine and so will Maddie

Re: poor maddie
I think Just give It times, And everything should work out, I mush say she shouldnt of left her mum at 6 weeks, I know you said circumstances her mum didnt want her, But the breeder should of taken care of her, Untill at least 8 weeks before selling her to yourself, But Im sure you take good care of her, Good luck, Time and patience soon pay off.

Re: poor maddie
Thanks all, Maddie is getting on much better with her new brother, she has told him off a couple of times but only by barking at him they have started to play this morning which was nice to see. i agree 6 weeks is to young but if i hadn't have taken him then he would have been sold to someone else. his doing really well with toilet training no dirty cage as yet, wakes me up at night to go out then straight back to bed and if the back door is open he will take himself outside (with maddie close behind him lol) will keep you all updated with some more pics soon

Re: poor maddie
... make sure your adult dog still gets lots of attention...I know when a new puppy comes along they are such hard work and of course the dog you already have misses out on alot of the attention it is used to getting. You need to share your love around.... I still have lots of quiet cuddles with Jethro when Winston isn't around...Jethro is still the king of the castle and Winston is the prince !!

Re: poor maddie
Vanessa, i have been very careful with Maddies attention as she has been my baby for 5 years, at night she has always cuddled in on the sofa so this continued my Husband makes sure he plays and cuddled the little man at night. Maddie did something really funny today, since pup has been here i have been carefull not to leave toys around until he settles but today Maddie got into her room and carried a toy out and put it down right in front of Bailey and lay and watched him play lol she is being so good with him now fingers x it continues

Re: poor maddie
I agree Vanessa, Alot of owners get so caughty up on training the puppy and giving love to the puppy, And dont give as much love and attention to the older dog, Important as you said share attention and love, And older dog Is the king younger dog the prince! lol

Re: poor maddie
This is one of the main problems with taking a pup too young from its mother and litter mates, it hasn't learnt as many valuable lessons as an 8 week pup. During this time period pups become boistrous and can wind their mum up, it is her job to teach them when enough is enough and to tell them off. As your pup is young he/she has missed out on 14 whole days of this. This is likely to make Maddie grumpy as the pup isn't listening to her obvious warnings.
Just make sure Maddie can get away from the pup and has a bed out of his reach, for example up on the sofa. She will probably have to tell him off a bit more harshly for him to take heed, dont worry unless it looks like she is hurting him. You need to take it upon yourself to start training the pup strait away, if you can teach him his name and to come when called you can shout him when he starts to annoy maddie. Thats the one advantage, the age your puppy is means he is learning loads and taking in everything, if you start training now you will have a headstart on everyone else.
