Re: Dog Training Classes
I haven't used puppy classes but i looked into them! .. the only reason i never was because our local one stopped doing it and other ones were further away but i dont drive lol ... NOW they are back locally so i may look into getting skye in there if they will take her at 4months (will have to ask)
i know alot of people on her do them and they sound like the work brilliantly!
Vanessa with winston who graduate not long ago always posted piks and post's on how his classes were going, maybe check those out so you can see .

Re: Dog Training Classes
Are they puppy classes or regular obedience classes? Either way group classes are great, since you get to work around disturbances (the other dogs and ppl) and socialize with other dogs and people. I always enroll my puppies in puppy classes, and don't think I ever would skip it. It's very valuable and it helps you learn to work with your dog while it's in the best age to start learning. I wouldn't go to a class that wasn't entirely based on positive reinforcement, though, you want the puppy to have a good start in life.
Re: Dog Training Classes
Im doing a class with Kayla at the moment, no where near as a good price as you got though.
Its really good in getting her socialised, most of the stuff is fairly easy to do but the socialisation is worth the money

Re: Dog Training Classes
Group classes are way better than one to one unless you have a specific problem that needs sorting.
I took all mine to basic puppy classes for the socialisation aspect of them rather than the obedience (I used to co-run a dog training club in London, so I've got an idea of where to start!), and it's invaluable.
I even took Dempsey till he decided that every other dog that was there had to be submissive to him - not a sensible thing when 90% of the class are large, adult dogs (GSDs, Labradors, R.Ridgebacks & Spaniels) and have no intention of being dominated by a 10 month old pup!

Re: Dog Training Classes
I never went to classes buut I did make sure Suki was around older dogs that would help teach her what is allowed and what is not. I think socialization is extremely important with any large breed and the more frequent the better. It helps with distractions.
Also, I advise to expose your dog to as many different breeds and ages as possible while they are young. The same goes for different types of people as well because it's best to know how your dog will react in any situation you can think of while they are young and the behavior is easier to correct.

Re: Dog Training Classes
As a pup Roxy went to Puppy classes and then I took her for obedience training for a further four weeks.
Group training IMHO is fantastic. The dogs get to socialise (very important life skill) and learn while there are distractions such as other dogs and other people. More often than not, if you train a dog on a one-to-one situation they will do great until it comes time when you are around distractions.........
Also YOU may form friendships with others there and get to swap horror stories, or stories of your dogs achievments.
Great value for money. I say "go for it" and Enjoy.
