Hunting instinct?
Have your staffies hunting instinct?
Before we got Carla, we have spoken to many whether their Staffies have hunting instinct. All said: no, our Staffies don`t like hunting.
Now, we live surrounded by woods-and Carla loves hunting! We`re training a lot, but for now she my only rarely run without a leash.
What are you doing about the instinct?

Re: Hunting instinct?
Mine hunts squirrels if that sort of counts! They usually get away, apart from 5. She is so quick and is only on lead when road walking. The rangers think its great she's keeping the numbers down!

Re: Hunting instinct?
Mine is just a pup, but I plan on working a lot on recall games and such, hoping to prevent him ever running off after some animal or other. I hope Susan Garretts "Recallers" (online) class will be available this fall (it's a possibility, if small), otherwise I'll have to wait until spring to take it. It's pretty costly, not sure how much, but I know several who have had such great results from it (with whippets mostly) that I really want to take it.
I don't think there's much you can do to prevent them from hunting other than having good enough recall to be able to call them of game.

That's the terrier in them - they're really game & some will chase anything small & furry!
My Bandit used to chase squirrels, foxes, rabbits, hares and anything else that ran in front of him!

Yes I believe they have it and will chase most anything. I try to discourage it though.
