Help with dry skin .. PLEASE ... Empty Help with dry skin .. PLEASE ...

Post by hollymolly Wed Jul 20 2011, 22:11

I think Inca has certain patches where she has dry skin and i was just wondering if anyone knows of best thing to put on it or for her to take... I wish it was as easy as just putting abit of E45 cream on it !!!!.. Don't worry am not that stupid or blonde .. Laughing Laughing

She has dry skin at the base of her tail, the skin on her elbows and sometimes on the outside of her back legs... It's not really bad but i just wanted to do or give her something to rid her of the dry skin..

She used to be on Omega 3 capsules (1 a day) and i was advised by my vet to try her on Evening Primrose Oil capsules instead (1 a day)... She has never had the best skin due to her suffering with Demodex Mange & Ringworm when young and was given 2 quite potent things that where put on her fur which i think have stripped her fur/skin on its natural oil and need to know what i can do to help her..

Help if you can peeps ....

My Scrumps suffered badly too (demodex/mange), she was so patchy it was unreal. To be honest she did just grow out of it and her coat and condition improved, but it took a couple of years until it was perfect. We fed the suppliments that you are Xx

Try rubbing a little baby oil (unperfumed) into the dry bits. Other than that, kepp doing what you are doing. Maybe add some tinned fish in oil to the diet once or twice a week.

Our vet has told us to use Sudocrem when Molly rubs herself red roar. She scratches her face alot because its itchy.

We have tried treating against Demodex just incase no better, tried changing her food to fish and potato instead of fish and rice still no better. Tried antihistamines

The vets say the next thing is steriod injections but cos she is so young dont wanna start using them yet really and we should see if we can get by without, just try and stop her scratching and use Sudocrem. :/

i would use olive oil, it is a naural oil that is good for skin and good if eaten, other oils that are bought normally have lots of harsh chemicals that can irriatate the skin and baby oil is one of the worst, it contains a by product of petrol, mineral oil.

Na I get all our pet food from fish4dogs directly from their website.

As we buy for 2 cats, 2 dogs in bulk get some great discounts. We get their food and treats from their aswell as the salmon oil an some salmon mouse so often end up with 20% discount when we order. Also get a big discount on puppy food cos we signed up for the puppy club for £1 which discounts £17 odd each big bag of puppy food for 12 months.

They often do 2 for 1 deals aswell, we have bought a big box of the fish swirls and got 1 free, also bought a large box of salmon mouse and got 1 free in the past, both amazing deals. They often do a deal on the slamon oil where you buy one and get the second half price aswell.

And here is a link to a thread I made about the discount we got when we signed up for the puppy club with them.

Yes, you can add a bit to the food every day. Beware that too much fat can upset their tummy. If it doesn't there's no problem, though. Just keep an eye on it. I also try to make a meal of fatty fish like salmon, mackerel and herring once a week and it seems to make a difference in their skin. (I feed only raw fish) I do believe the oil directly from the source will always be better than refined products (like pressed oils).

For good skin I always use the fish oils. Onyx as a pup lost half his fur from demodex, got some stuff called nu-stock from a site for farm animals. That cream plus vet meds cleared it up super fast. The nu-stock is sulfur based and smells AWEFUL!!!!!!!
