Flea Tablet
My vet gave me a flea tablet for Nero,(9 week old).He has had a small amount of diarrhoea 24 hrs after taking it, could this be the tablet. The tablet is called Bravecto.

Re: Flea Tablet
In a word, yes. Quite possible.
I know there are others on here who use Bravecto, but I wouldn't touch it. It's incredibly harsh.
Can I ask why a 9 week old pup needs Flea treatment? We're there fleas present?

Re: Flea Tablet
I’ve always been told by the vet aswell that the dog should be getting the flee tablet every 3 months starting at 8 weeks?
Puppy’s stomach just not used to that kind of stuff yet I’d say you shouldn’t worry much if it already stopped. Give your vet a call if worried they’ll probably put ur mind at ease

Re: Flea Tablet
We found some fleas on his rug and he was scratching a lot.
We don’t know wether he had them when we picked him up or not.I can only take the vets advise.

Re: Flea Tablet
I don’t use bravecto but nexguard spectra.
I’m not sure if there is a minimum age but seresto flea collars are really effective on cats and dogs for 6 months at least.

Re: Flea Tablet
I will try that, he had loose stools last night and this morning
but since then he hasn’t been.He is still eating all his food so I would assume it was a short term thing.

Re: Flea Tablet
That's great. It's always worth having something on hand to settle a dodgy tum!
Prokolin is good, but has a short shelf life. Kaogel is also good, has a longer shelf life, but may be a bit strong for a pup. Most large pet stores sell Protexin, a powder you can sprinkle on food which settles tums. It's expensive, mind.

Re: Flea Tablet
I have ProPlan FortiFlora in case and after testing lots of alternatives, this is the most effective one I’ve used yet.

I flea & worm Katy every year with advocate, last year they gave me Bravecto & she threw up in 10 minutes! Never had that with the drops on her neck!

Re: Flea Tablet
You just have to be careful with any product that works with drops on the neck as they generally accumulate in the liver ...

Re: Flea Tablet
I'm always careful giving Katy anything like that Nifty! Vet says every couple of months but I only do twice a year.

Of course and I respect your choices.
But what I meant is that whilst these products are effective, they must not be used too often nor for “fragile” canines (young puppies ?) unless specific for that group of animals.
Baby Nifty’s parasite protocole when I acquired her was wormer every month until 6 months of age with milbemax or milpro or dronstop or milbactor.
Flea treatment was stronghold drops the day I went to fetch her and then as needed.

Re: Flea Tablet
Next time I will be better informed, it’s still difficult as I cant speak to the Vet face to face. Thanks to all again for the advice. And on another subject,Nero has twice now had rapid breathing heartbeat in the evening, quite worrying as aI have never seen that before,I have read that it may be heat related and the incidents do seem to follow hot days, any theories or advice ?
