Blues

I don't want to start a nasty debate, but I wondered what people here think about the number of blue litters being registered?

For example, for July-September this year there were a total of 217 litters registered with the KC and 155 (at least) were blues. That's three quarters of total registrations being blue.

Bear in mind that the original standard used to state that brindle should be preferred.

Thoughts? Polite only.

I don’t have anything against blue, alot are very nice.
But what I find IS a problem is how and why so many blues are bred.

For too many of these litters, it’s purely about money and jumping onto the fashion band wagon. No consideration is given on the genetic breeding/ mating, nor temperament nor even type and so many of these poor pups start out their life with health problems.

I really think the KC should take action.
There are so many countries which screen all future breeding animals, and then breeders have to be registered in order to produce KC stock.

And just a thought, has anyone done any statistics on the inbreeding factor of these blue litters ?

I have a preference for the colour red in our breed (I've always loved the colour red) if other people have a preference for the colour blue then that's their choice I guess, each to their own. Thankfully the show-world (show-ring) will 'promote and safeguard' all other desirable colours therefore, they will never disappear. We need to preserve all the desirable colours within our breed including blue's.

The only reason i don't much like blues is the fact they can have so many issues if they are not bred responsibly. I think the colour itself is beautiful and they look fabulous when healthy, but i just always have that fear for them. I personally prefer red or brindle staffies
