Where did blues come from?
Just a question to see if anyone knew how blues started? Remember even a few years ago I hadn't came across a blue Stafford, now there increasingly popular. Was having a look through the family tree section earlier, just browsing really and ended up looking at jolsons blue boy. I've posted up his 2 gen pedigree. I cant work out how he became blue! Any advice on the matter would be appreciated.

Still if blues come from blacks we've had blacks all the way back from 1920's onward I assume. How come over the last few years we've seen blues appear?

Re: Where did blues come from?
blue is a dilution colour of black like fawn is a dilution colour of red
Re: Where did blues come from?
Jolsons blueboy is my boys great grandad
Anyway- how did he become blue ? ... Well his mom and dad would both be carriers of the blue gene, resulting in a blue dog.
Another example : if u mate a blue bitch with a black male that carries the blue gene, the pups will be blue.
If u mate blue bitch with Black male without blue gene, you could have a mixed litter of blues and blacks.
It's all about the blue gene which is a recessive gene. Mate 2 dogs carrying the recessive gene and it becomes the dominant gene passed on.
Think that's right !!!

Re: Where did blues come from?
Blues have always been in the stafford. They used to be called grey.
As Steve says, it's a dilute of black and as such never used to be bred from with blue pups being sold to pet homes. However, people started to notice the colour a few years ago & began breeding specifically for the colour. There are one or two prominent stud dogs that you'll find in the pedigree of most blue dogs, one of them being Ch. Valglo Cassanova. Ch. Vanoric Voodoo is another.

Re: Where did blues come from?
I've seen some really beautiful blue staffords. Were they breed standard? No, most of them weren't, but that didn't stop them being gorgeous!

Yes, I've seen your post and commented.
But plaese bear in m ind that the breed average is only 6.7% and breeders should be aiming to produce pups with a lower COI than that.
