Canine school
Alot of us take our pups to puppy classes for socializing and to show them new things that we might not have in the home environment.
But do any of you continue to canine school ?
Today was back to school for Opium. A couple of new faces, the same exercises to do.
To be honest, I’m wondering if the classes are still adapted as Opium can perform all exercises off lead and for socializing skills, she’s one who’ll snap first so we’re not going for her to meet others, just to work in their presence
She’s too young for agility, flyball and the such. Not really sure I want to hype her up and excite her more than she already is anyway. We tried one obedience session but it’s a bit too serious ...
Any ideas ?

Re: Canine school
We took Misty to adult classes soon after we had her and she was spayed. We love it. We are now in the adult advanced class and honestly I wouldn't stop going.
It's a social thing for us as we go every Saturday morning and know the other owners and dogs. We have five dogs in a class and three are reactive so everyone has their own space and we train outside too which I prefer. We have learnt so much both in class and from our teacher who is unbelievablely knowledgeable. I really don't think I would be able to take Misty to the running events without what we learn in class.
Id love to take her to flyball but I don't think I'd trust her not to get distracted and run after other dogs!!
We have some agility as there is an agility barn I've hired previously as she is great but sadly our trainer doesn't offer agility classes.
I'd always recommend training class as I love them so much. Have you tried the kennel club good citizen course?

Re: Canine school
I’ll have to see if we have an equivalent here.
It’s true that it’s our Saturday afternoon outing too. I regret not being able to take Nifty too but I don’t believe (nor trust) in leaving unattended in the car. Nifty is much less athletic and is the most openly social anyways so she’s happy staying home with the whole sofa for herself.
I have found a canine swimming pool facility here, for recreational use as well as therapeutic, so must see if I can take the girls Opium absolutely loves water so it could be nice to see if she can swim before having to dive into the lake to rescue her

Re: Canine school
No tbh Puppy class was enough when we were segregated at "playtime" when all other pups got to run freely and she asked for Vinnie to be on a training lead! so we did plenty of socializing on our own walking with plenty of dogs

We had this problem when we took Gus to puppy class. He kept getting blamed for all the other dogs bad behaviour even though he had nothing to do with it. We went twice and the stopped going.
We have just managed to get Seren booked onto puppy classes with a really good trainer. First seven weeks are indoor and then the classes move outdoor and get more advanced. Can’t wait to get started now.
