Could Blake be deaf

First topic message reminder :

Guy's i have mentioned Blake does not heed Chloe's warnings until she leaps at him....

While Chloe's been unwell we have noticed Blake not reacting to noise......

IE when the doorbell rings he, like Chloe runs to greet... However while Chloe's been unwell Blake has not reacted at all..... During puppy class he is so ignorant to his name....

If we are in the garden and say wee wee he does it, if we say toilet he does that..... but he could be reacting to hand signals.... He sits when told, but again there is hand signal with it...

He does not react to the clicker or whistle, any advice guys

To add he is pure white

Last night his first sign lesson..... Sit, down and stay, will get some better video then this but had iphone in one hand lol

@Gem, you have not got to be heart broken we have found a wonderful, special little puppy... This makes us really happy and incredibly proud , we know we can make this work.
Blake has got a forever home, he will never be placed in a rescue, he will be with us all of his life.. We have him on puppy foundation course of the kennel club good citizen award program, he should pass with flying colours, we will then put him onto bronze award and all the way to gold.... I know he can do it !!!! We Blake, Chloe and his human family are going to have many adventures, and fun in the future...

@ Caryll & Janey... Don't worry video's only seconds long as can only email so much to photobucket.... Will however set up an account with u tube and get Blake a channel on there to log his progress

Just catching up on everything and i've just read through this thread. Blake is a very special little man and you are such a caring person for going through everything to give him the best life possible as some people may have just taken the vets offer of rehoming help. I'm sure him and Chloe will be an amazing pair together, give him love from me and his brother Cody xx

how has the training gone sue

Hi Lynne,

He's doing fantastic, had him at puppy school last night and they are sure he will pass KC good citizen deffo up to silver, and probably even gold.... So he is being put forward for bronze at the end of his foundation class, which is passed...

He was great on recall last night so long as he can see us, we are working on that at the minute, just been and fetched him a 10 and 20 metre recall lead to help with his bobby dazzler collar.... He has mastered the sit, stand and down commands and passed them all last night... He also passed his examination test... Trainer asked if we would talk to local media if he passes his gold... Which is great not only for deaf dogs, but staffies in general ( a bit of good press eh )

I promise to get a video up of him on u tube, it's just these two are zapping all my spare time, if it's not his training it's her medicines or trying to force the latest cuisine down her neck lol....

I'm really angry with her vet at the minute... When we took her in for discharge they said it was the onset of pymetra and to bring her spay forward.. They gave her antibiotics and that was that... Her post op check they decided she was having a phantom pregnancy and prescribed galastop for it.... Her vet bill todate is just under 500 pounds ( not bothered about that ) What I am mad with is everybody is saying the discharge would have been caused by the phantom pregnancy and she should NOT have been spayed while in that condition... My poor girls hormones are all over the place..... It's making her so far down it's not real

Poor Chloe, I can totally empathise with how your poor babe is feeling with her hormones all over the place as Kita had a phantom pregnancy when she was around 11 months old.
Health wise, I only had to deal with mastitis and some minor issues, but the hormonal side was nowhere near as easy. I knew she'd never been pregnant, but she grieved as if she'd lost a child (well based from a nurse and human's point of view anyway).
I feel for you as you really don't need any more dramas. Big hug, remember we're your broad shoulders to lean on whenever you need, ><

Looks like the training is going so well, great job to him and of course to you for not giving up on him and for putting the effort in . I read that dogs live fine not being able to hear anyway, because it's primarily their sense of smell they rely on, so I'm sure he's a happy little guy. What do you do when you want to tell him no/leave it? That must be the hardest part of it.
