Pet travel and brexit
I know that the brexit is a hot subject but with regards to travelling with our pets after, I found this information which can be rather useful.
Please note the requirements surrounding the rabies vaccinations and on paperwork.
The guidance warns of the necessity to prepare at least 4 months in advance !!

Oh good grief, there's enough to do before Brexit to take your dog abroad!!! Overkill comes to mind!

Re: Pet travel and brexit
Well I suppose it’s always better than 6 months of quarantine like before.
But I think so many people are going to be refused in the ports for rabies vaccinations, invalid passport and especially missing vet certificate ...

Re: Pet travel and brexit
Yes better than 6 months but I really don't think I'd bother. I would be happier staying at home with Katy
To be honest its not the animals coming into the country that need to be checked, it's all the small groups that arrive & disappear without a trace!

Re: Pet travel and brexit
I understand but my girls are never even going to have the opportunity of meeting you or Katy if we can’t even get over the Channel in the first place !!
I never understood the tapeworm thing as horses travelling over the Channel don’t have to have vet declaration on their treatment (or not)

That's true, I don't know what the regs are on horses! Liz is to & through to France with her pups often so may have a better idea

No, I'm sorry, but it isn't overkill. Do you really want heartworm & rabies to come to the UK?
I know it's a pain, but surely you want not only your own pooch to be safe, but also every pooch in the UK?
Or would you rather 6 months quarantine again? Don't forgot that the UK Government was against free travel for dogs in the first place.

Re: Pet travel and brexit
Good post Nifty staffy - of interest to me, as you know, with us thinking of taking PJ across the water with on our next holiday...
Have to say the regs make for seriously onerous reading; I do TOTALLY understand about having these vaccinations done, the worming etc as I'd not want the same going to the UK, though I'm sure it bloody well does every day and not just with animals.
What does concern me is - and I'm new to travelling abroad with pets - I've witnessed how these borders are often controlled (been abroad with work quite a bit) and the paperwork that gets lost/mislaid... The consequences would/could be catastrophic for you and your dog/s no?

Re: Pet travel and brexit
I guess it depends how you travel but I know that at the Eurotunnel terminal, there is an animal “check-in” who check papers (like they check your papers at border control) but who do not keep them.
So if anyone is going to lose them, unfortunately that’s you ...

Re: Pet travel and brexit
Yeah I guess so - was referring to the internal borders really - haven't used the Eurostar etc as usually fly for work, then hire car and cross borders that way.
Obviously this is something you do often Nifty, so you know the activity required inside out

Re: Pet travel and brexit
I’ve used Eurotunnel a fair bit lately but I’ve not yet been with the girls.
However I’ve been doing a fair bit of research to ensure vaccinations, amongst others, are in check
Imported horse via ferry so have an idea how that works (even if very different)
LizP has already taken hers over the Channel a few times

Re: Pet travel and brexit
I guess papers could get lost if travelling by air but a staffy is too big to travel with owner so must travel in case with luggage (I did research for fetching Opium).
I would do anything to avoid that for my canine friend !

Re: Pet travel and brexit
Yeah exactly -that's been my only travel experience - as you say I wouldn't wish air travel on PJ at all! Horrible - I looked at importing an American Bulldog way back when I was in my early 20s - the rigmarole of what the dogs would have to go through put me right off - sedation, crating in the hold etc etc... no way.

Awesome, what's the 'breeding world' like there? Better regulated or same as here?
Do they bark in French/Spanish??

Re: Pet travel and brexit
Staffies don’t bark, they talk
Breeding sounds much better regulated in that they must be KC registered to avoid falling into BSL (would otherwise be in category 1 which is strictly forbidden in the country)
Parents must be KC registered AND confirmed (presented to judge for conformity to breed standard) for pups to be KC registered.
(My girls are both KC registered but unconfirmable, but I don’t care as never intended to breed in the slightest).
Otherwise lots of blue or crossing with blue, several breeding farms for profit, one had 7 litters on the go to choose pups from
Staffies are becoming more popular as “mini AmStaff not subject to BSL”

Re: Pet travel and brexit
Wow - kind of wished I didn't ask...!
At least you've found your charges from the best places/sources - Really like the fact that Ma and Pa must be registered - not entirely sure how that'd work here. I saw some really dreadful so called KC registered 'breeders' when looking for PJ - and I mean bad.
Are the standards any/much different for the KC confirmation etc over there, as opposed to here...?

Re: Pet travel and brexit
Problem is always the difference between theory and in practice.
I don’t believe you have the confirmation system in the UK but here, they have the typical staffy specifications the dog is supposed to have.
I’ve seen some really ugly (sorry) breeding staffies, some even with labrador ears ! But I haven’t seen their paperwork so confirmation could only be a lie in the ad to sell the mating/pups.
Nifty couldn’t be confirmed as she was born with a deformed tail. Nothing genetically transmittable but not conform to breed spec all the same.
Opium is obviously because of her colour.
Not really interested in the show staffie tbh, I just wanted extra members to the family and that’s what I have.
I love my girls, defects ‘n’ all

Re: Pet travel and brexit
Hey - interesting and I'm of the same/similar opinion - that's another reason I took a while looking for PJ. We've all got our own opinions as to what's what regarding appearance, definition, profile, head, shoulder height etc.
I have to be honest, can't be anything else, don't necessarily agree with how the KC does things and as such how they've affected our lovely dogs over the past decades up to current - but who am I - just an opinion.
Your 2 look fine and dandy to me!! They're Staffords and that's that, fine looking, happy and healthy
PJ has no papers, her litter was the result of an unplanned mating, I'm more than happy with her - over the moon in fact!
