hi everyone, sorry to be a pain but after some more advice please, so ive beed looking into dry dog food and so far the ones in thinking are either
applaws.
barking heads.
wainwrighs ( I'm looking at this cause a lot of people seem to like this one )...

anyway quite a few people have suggested raw, but I don't have the confidence to go down this route....
but a few people have suggested naturediet or natures harvest so my question is, are these more healthy than any of the above dryed...if yes do I feed just these? and for anyone who feeds this how many slabs a day do you feed when a puppy, and if you have older dogs on it, how many do you feed now? I really appreciated any advice given in helping me decide what to feed my new puppy when I finally get one. at the moment my head feels like its going to burst Laughing

Then thing I'd say against naturediet (other than the amount of plastic and my sensitive veggie nose thinks it stinks) is that's quite expensive. Between my 3s different needs, they were getting the best part of 2 trays each a day, that's over £2 a day, which is a lot. It looks like Nature's Harvest is the same.

Applaws, on the other hand, works out at less than £1 a day for better nutritional value. Wainwrights is popular but for me it's not as good and again a little more expensive (but only a little). Of the foods you've listed, I'd go with Applaws.

You can, if you like, mix them. There is a myth that you shouldn't mix dog foods, especially dry and raw, but there is no scientific evidence for this. I feed a mixture of raw and kibble (it's a long story... Rolling Eyes) and all of my dogs are happy and healthy.

If you're not very confident, though, you're probably best picking one brand to start off with, following the feeding guidelines on the pack, and then seeing how you get on. There's no reason, for example, that you can't feed Applaws (or whichever you pick) and then give raw bones (ask us about that if you want). They're great for teeth as well as a hit with most dogs.

Thanks liz, might just go with the applaws to start off with and then feed a little raw as time goes on...we used to give our boerboel raw food like chicken wings and mince and stuff from time to time, but wouldn't like to do it all the time, think you need to know exactly what your doing and have the confidence to do it, alas I don't...anyway thanks again Smile

We had Gus on raw but he is so fussy that we would end up with raw food all over the house. Trying to find the rotting chicken wings wasn’t the best of games. We used a company called Durham animal feed they were great and helped us decide what we needed to buy. Gus is back on kibble now and is eating well.
