On vet referral
Nifty is on vet referral for anal polyp removal by surgery
Cortizone creams did not help.
Gotta ring vet referral tomorrow.
I’m told it’s easy surgery but they're concerned of recurrences given her age and where it's situated

I suppose the up side is that I made the most of being at my vet’s by booking Nifty in for her spaying. One season is quite enough for us all thanks

Chaos in particular sends his sympathies to Nifty (he had his anal glands removed a while back).
Good idea to get it all done together!

Re: On vet referral
Well I don’t know if it will be done together or not.
Spaying is for end of April and we have appointment with referral vet on Monday for his opinion.
Will see what he says Monday as to next move.
Donkt know if my vets particularly want to operate polyp hence referral

Re: On vet referral
She’s starting to look very uncomfortable when she’s pooing so yes, I am getting a little concerned for her. However she’s 12 days into her season so impossible to spay her before a couple of months minimum after end of season.
And then I worry about 2 anaesthetics in a few months interval ...

Re: On vet referral
See what the specialist says, but it does sound like something needs doing.
I was worried about Chaos having his glands done separately (they don't do both together as it increases the risk of incontinence) but he didn't have a problem with it at all. Other than his spiralling fear of the vets but that was caused by all the prodding and poking of a very sore bottom early on.

Hey Liz - did Chaos have to wear the cone of shame after his ops ?
Nifty is about as supple as a plank so I don’t think she’d be able to reach her potential op wound. We’re also looking into medical pet shirt for spaying

Re: On vet referral
He wore an inflatable one and it didn't seem to bother him much at all
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Buster-279805-Inflatable-Collar-M/dp/B007GH3UES/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1515949115&sr=8-1&keywords=inflatable+dog+buster+collar
It did the trick. I don't think it would stop a more supple/longer dog from reaching right round but it was just enough for him.

Re: On vet referral
Met referral vet tonight, Nifty is booked in for minor polyp removal surgery early February.
Great guy, took his time to answer my multiple questions.
Causes for polyp unknown.
Her being in season/hormones probably contributed to it increasing in size. He said spaying this Easter will be good for her to help avoid recurrences.
Creams didn’t work as polyp too big and blood irrigation too important (yet again season contributing factor).
Op will be short, only medication as post-op care as internal soluble stitches. Have to wait for end of season hence next month.

Re: On vet referral
It's great when you find a vet that has the patience to talk it all through so that you understand what is proposed. So set for a few weeks time and all this will be done and dusted

Re: On vet referral
Nifty is home and recovering from the anaesthetic.
She’s wearing her fleece and wrapped up in a blanket.
All went well, only internal stitch and poyp gone for analysis.
She must be starving having eaten nothing since 5:30am yesterday.

Re: On vet referral
Keep her warm and feed her little a couple of times (a couple hours interval) until evening meal.
She has antibiotics, anti-inflamatories and a cream to be applied for 5 days. Vet appointment at usual vets for check-up in 10 days, shoukd have results of polyp analysis too.
Nifty is a sleepy pup, but drinking well, should help her eliminate the anaesthetic.

Re: On vet referral
I'm glad it all went well. She should be feeling a lot better tomorrow. I do think anesthetics are so confusing for dogs, that they understand the concept of pain more easily than the idea of being tired and uncoordinated.
Fingers crossed for a clear result!

At the moment she’s hungry
We decided to analyse the polyp to know what we’re up against. She’s merely 10 months old but there’s no age for prevention, as they say

Re: On vet referral
I must admit that I was worried about the whole surgery but she was with us as the sedative took and we were there for her as she was coming around.
She’s already had zoomies in the house, ran after the cat in the snow in the garden and is playing with OH. All good.
As for polyp analysis, no longer in my hands and hope it will confirm that it is one of those things
