Met a lady with her kids today who enquired about what breed Nifty is.
According to her :
- A staffy is a not a breed but a cross between ...
- A Staffordshire Bull Terrier is derived from an AmStaff

Oh, lord, so many people are ignorant of the how the Stafford evolved.

The AmStaff, and the Pitbull are not descended from the Stafford.

However, it's difficult to tell people that!

She was also hinting that Nifty was a dwarf AmStaff Crying or Very sad
She may as well stick to her burmese mountain dogs !

On another score, I had a look for SBT for adoption on equivalent RSPCA. They had a few AmStaffs, a couple of american bullies and one which looks very much like a SBT (by it’s size too) but they were saying it was subject to BSL like AmStaffs.

And in the Encyclopædia Britannica too apparently ... whistling

I thnk what gillybrent means is that the SBT, AmStaff and Bull Terrier all trace back to the bull-and-terriers from the earlier days in England. The theory that the AmStaff can’t be derived from SBT is that both breeds were KC recognised as specific breeds at a year’s interval, even if alot of the breed standards were very similar.
So technically, they are cousins and not ancestors

In this day an age you assume most people know stuff, but i was walking Lexi in a "posh" town it would be a few years ago now but they stopped me to say how beautiful she was, and asked what she was and i said staffy and they said "oh i have never heard of that before, shes just darling im going to go look up the breed cause we have been considering a dog and dont want a chihuahua" hahah. Would love to know what they ever got.
