Problems with wearing coats
Nifty does not want to relieve herself when she’s wearing a coat.
She’ll pee when it’s mega urgent but refuses to poo.
However, I’m worried she’ll catch a chill if I have to take her coat off each time.
Not to mention the unpractical side of having to take off harness, especially considering that we’re outside out and about.
Anyone got any ideas ?
She’s currently using a Horseware Rambo fleece dog coat, her Equafleece tankies are in the post

Re: Problems with wearing coats
I have trouble getting the coat on Katy, after getting her out from under the table! She is fine when its on other than trying to roll it off, she will wee & poo. The only time she wouldn't go was after she was spayed & was wearing the baby grow, that was too near her bits! Once I took it off she peed for England!

Re: Problems with wearing coats
It was the alternative to the funnel of shame to stop her licking the wound, I took it off so she would wee & she never even looked at the stitches

Re: Problems with wearing coats
How is she having her coat put on? It might be that you need to spend more time desensitising her to it. If putting it on is a problem, then clicker/treats can help. We also do kisses through the opening
As long as she's not really worried by wearing the coat, I'd then leave it on for longer so she gets used to the feel of it more. Let her wear it in the house a bit, when your playing and cuddling. The more the feel of the coat becomes normal and not just associated with walks, hopefully the more it will feel normal on walks too.

Re: Problems with wearing coats
Thanks for the advice.
The baby grow is actually a nice idea. No uglier than the cone of shame but much more practical and dare I suggest it, efficient too ?
I was considering the kong doughnut but Nifty is capable of catching it going into her crate, plus she’d probably wriggle out of it too.
Liz - putting on is ok but it’s true that she doesn’t have the same liberty of movement with than without the rug. She’ll play in the garden with it and on walks, she’s ok. Just that she’ll clam up and that's usually sign she needs to relieve herself.
Hope that the equafleeces are more supple and that she’s more comfortable with them ...
