Wearing their teeth down
Hi there - Lola and Chloe are always gnawing on stag bars, bones, raw hides, etc, etc, and I've noticed that their canine teeth have lost their point Do these grow back? They're only 12 and 18 months. Really worried that I've let them 'chew' too much.

Re: Wearing their teeth down
Hi Jo ... Chiquito is younger, so not something I have seen in him.
The adult teeth do not grow back unfortunately, so if they are broken/worn in any area this will be the way they stay. I would not think that in your case it is a problem, do speak to your vet next time you are there if you are concerned though .. they or a doggy dentist would be able to advise if the chew toys are causing the teeth to wear too fast

Re: Wearing their teeth down
mmmm the wearing of teeth is more common in wet feed dogs as there teeth become softer and when they play with tennis balls etc that can wear them down .
chewing raw bones and raw feeding should actully keep the canines extra pointy .
IMO dont give hide chews as they cause more probs than enough and can be dangerous

Moo's canine's aren't sharp, they have a sort of blunt top to them if that makes sense, its not something I have ever worried about

Thanks Janey - that's a relief! Their teeth are still pretty long, just with blunt tops to them!

Re: Wearing their teeth down
Once the adult teeth are fully formed thats it, if they wear un-naturaly or break, they wont re-grow ... staffys are buggers for wearing canines on things they shouldnt chew

Re: Wearing their teeth down
stag bars, bones etc are great at cleaning teath, they are never sharp anyway. dogs have a jaw that pivots up and down only like a trap door so as log as they can rip they are fine. omnivoures and herbivours have a side action for chewing, dogs dont chew per say they rip chunks and swallow. what can be described as chewing is in fact knawing.

Re: Wearing their teeth down
The canine teeth shouldn't be really sharp & pointy, not like the puppy needles!
As long as they're nice & clean, and they're not splitting in any way then I doubt you've got anything to worry about.
