heya guys really need some help so been feeding cody orijen dry food last couple of weeks for his evening meals and natures menu tinned food in the morning he seems to love them both but only problem is the orijen is giving him terrible gas so bad that a couple of times i have let him out a his poop is just not pleasant to anyone.

he was on raw for awhile but he stopped eating it and hard to find a supply that does competle meals without cody allergies in and tried diy and he just hated it

i need a food that i can hide his tablet in also

please help me guys his gassy bum may kill me before christmas has come x

It could be that feeding two different foods a day is upsetting his tummy?

Is there a reason that you've chosen two such different feeds?


If you want to feed raw, have you tried Nutriment? Very good complete raw with good quality meat, offal & bone included.

the reason is because i hide his tablet in the natures menu food have tried hiding it in cheese , ham ,treats and he just spits it out and he cant have nutriment compelete meals as they use wheat germ oil and ones of cody allergies is wheat xx

I'd recommend raw to anyone trying to cope with allergies.

Is Cody allergic to specific meats?

nope as far as know just wheat , rice , potato , corn , soy and we think he also has environmental allergies xx

Did you know that Natures Diet tins all contain either rice or potato? The cans don't but the tins do - apparently there's a difference!

If I were you I'd try and stick with the same type/brand of food for morning & afternoon.

As Orijen is so expensive, try the Benyfit tubs. Maybe there's somewhere close to you that sells it so that you don't have to buy a large amount straight away. I'm sure they'll tell you where if you contact them.

Sensitivities/allergies are so difficult and stressful, aren't they?

What kind of tablets is he on if you don’t mind me asking?

Millies Wolfheart (sorry to be boring and recommend it again) also does dry and wet, and should be alright for your allergies list.

he is on apoquel which is really helping keep him skin and allergies under control xx

I've read some not so good things about that and one of the most common side effects is diarrhea. could it be the medication causing the upset tummy? Have you only ever been offered this to treat his allergies or have you tried many?

Are his allergies really severe or could you look into trying natural remedies for his allergies?

Sorry for all the questions I just worry about the medications we get given for our doggos.

hes been on it for a year when he was on raw and never had diarrhea with it so its defo the food and tried everything before putting him on the tablets put he will chew his feet so much that they bleed and his skin will literally be on fire and red raw nothing had work have spent thousands on herbal shampoo , flea treatment

Having had a severely allergic dog, I can quite understand how distressing it is and yes, sometimes you have to resort to drugs.

Have you tried mixing raw with kibble, by any chance? Millie is a real pain sometimes, she'll just go off her food and refuse point black to touch it, so we have to have a temporary switch to something else then mix the two to get her back to her back to eating something. We were on raw for a year then she wouldn't touch it, so we switched to Millies Wolfheart for a year, then she wouldn't touch it. We went back to raw, which was now delicious, and now she gets a mix of the two or just one or the other which seems to keep her happy (Chaos and Nola will eat anything and everything, thank goodness!).

The other thing to try is a different way of feeding treats. Here it's Chaos who's the fussy one, but by hiding a tablet in smelly cheese and throwing it to him in the middle of a series of treats he just swallows it. They have to learn how to catch, so that it's a seamless throw-catch-swallow, giving it by hand allows them the time to smell it first. Brie is a good cheese for this, you can mold it right round the pill.

i didnt think you could mix raw and dry food together and will defo try the brie cheese idea as he loves cheese xx

That's over 3 months now that all of them have both kibble and raw and all are fine on it.

If the brie trick works, just do bear in mind that cheese has a high fat content so try and use as little as possible. However, if it's the difference between not getting the pills down or not, then a little bit of fat shouldn't be the end of the world.
