Still here, just very busy!
So we've been packing up the house ready to move next week and still nowhere near done
It's been almost two months since we got Chase and four weeks since he was neutered.
He's settled down again now after neutering. No more lead ragging, lunging, wrist nipping and growling on walks but he has started barking at other dogs which he never did before.
He sniffs on walks much less and his attention span has increased from flea to goldfish
I have taught Chase 'fist bump' and 'wave' and we're halfway through learning 'touch' (touch an object)
We're no longer using the clicker, Chase will do anything for chopped up sausages!
Overall Chase is developing into a well trained staffy
I am however now wondering if he is ten months old instead of almost two years old as he has grown massively since we've had him. About another head length and is becoming more defined and chunky looking!
Hope everybody else is doing okay. I've not had a chance to catch up with posts yet!

Re: Still here, just very busy!
Thought you might be busy but have missed your posts.
From your first post here to where you are now is miles apart, Chase and you are doing great the thing is we all evolve, us humans and our fur friends, so what was once a routine oddly changes without us humans noticing.
You are learning Chases ways as much as he is learning yours and they will change, Staffies are master manipulators always remember that. Let's be honest, they give the eyes and we all give in
So, if he's growing there's one of two things going on, either he isn't 2 or you're over feeding him

Re: Still here, just very busy!
He's a totally different dog now!
I don't think it's over feeding lol I've just had to up his food by another half a cup as he was looking a little lean round the back end.
I took Chase for a walk today after a week of Matt doing it cos I've been packing.
Matt has worked wonders with him this week. He didn't pull on the lead once and has a solid recall now!
He walks proudly with his head up and his ears pricked instead of nose down and sniffing everything. It's brilliant!
I think there's definitely an understanding between him and all of us now and he realises we're his humans.

Re: Still here, just very busy!
He is a stunning boy. Everybody who meets him says they've never seen a dog like him before and several people have said we should show him!
We've had another little set back today.
Chase again bit down on my wrist and wouldn't let go.
We went for our usual afternoon walk, got down to the Ford so the kids could throw stones and Chase could have a paddle.
He went in, got out, shook off the water and went straight for my wrist and wouldn't let go. The only way to get through to him was to pin him to the floor, I feel so terrible! Fortunately I was wearing my thick winter coat so I didn't get any damage from his teeth.
This behaviour is random and unpredictable. I haven't found anything to trigger it, no two situations the same.
Really hope his new trainer can work it out and find a solution.
It's worrying!
When he's like this it's like someone has flicked a switch. Even now he's agitated instead of his normal chilled out self.
Maybe a check up at the vet?

Re: Still here, just very busy!
Can i ask, if he comes at you to jump up, do you atumatically put your arm in front of you? Or maybe out and down to in your mind physically stop them.
I ask because i have had a dog who was very easy to teach to " latch" by doing exactly this. He was a guard dog, and the automatic response of people can be to put an arm up hence the latch onto the arm thing. When dealing with a dog like that, the best thing to do is to put arms close to your side or fold them and turn away, that way they cant latch.

Re: Still here, just very busy!
Good question!
No!
We can be walking along nicely and he'll just turn and grab your arm even when it's by your side!
I think it's partly nerves and partly frustration but what he's frustrated about I can't work out.
I dropped the lead last time he did it and he still came at me so it wasn't like he was trying to run from something that's startled him.
We'll get it worked out!
