Boy or Girl?
Hi Everyone
i just thought i would raise the question if you think you can tell the sex of a dog by looking at their face alone? Do you think some dogs look more feminine /masculine than others? i think my Nancy is to Pretty to be mistaken as a boy but i am rather biased, buddy on the other hand never gets mistaken for a girl, but it happens all the time when we are out and about , strangers will say "hes a lovely boy" to Nancy, even though she has a pink collar and harness i mean i love that she gets compliments regardless, i suppose its like when people look in a pram and get the sex of the baby wrong
So we have started playing a little game on walks when we see a dog we have to say what we think the sex is before it becomes apparent...... and its clear that we cant tell the sex.... we are 9 times out of 10 wrong lol

Re: Boy or Girl?
I have Nifty in a purple harness (because we really can’t do pink) but alot of people ask what sex she is
Probably because female staffies are stockier than alot of breeds, people presume that it’s a male trait rather than a breed specification.
Whilst I think that those who know a specific breed can guess by morphological traits/size, it is often difficult to tell.
I have the problem in puppy classes with new participants. Maybe the pink/purple vs blue collar/harness should be compulsory ?

Harley lurcher used to have a purple harness - I got it in a charity shop but it actually suited him!
No, I don't think you can tell gender by looking at anything other than the underside of a dog. We get loads of 'pretty' boys in and an equal number of 'handsome' girls. I've had loads of people think Millie's a boy!

I have Katy in pink as I am sick of people asking HIS name Although I still get asked even then!!! Male staffs do usually have wider heads than females in my experience.

Re: Boy or Girl?
Chase was only mistaken for female once but that's cos I used a pink lead as it was slightly longer than his red one.
I got "have you got her under control" ... My reply "no! I have him under control, he's not gonna eat anybody today!" ... The lady was very panicked and walked her dog by rather quickly lol!
I wonder if now that he's been neutered he'd get mistaken. He does have a very soft looking pretty face bless him.

We get he all the time. It really annoys me but then again we don't help as we dress her in dark harnesses etc. I've learnt my lesson now and always refer to others dogs as they or then until I'm sure!
