Complete balanced kibble? Empty Complete balanced kibble?

Post by Nifty staffy Sat May 27 2017, 19:26

Please bear with me, I'm familiar with feeding horses but not dogs Blushing

So for several reasons, I'll be keeping Nifty on a kibble diet. She's currently eating Pro Plan (don't know exactly which one yet) and I'm wondering if I shouldn't try to switch her to Orijen which is supposed to be better ?

However, are all (decent) kibble feeds a complete balanced feed or will it be necessary to add supplements ?
I've heard about giving carrots (to play and to eat ?) but should I be giving anything else to ensure proper development ?

Thanks

Hi,if you are getting your pup from a good breeder, which I am in no doubt you are, they will give you a feeding plan and what the pup has been fed on.It should be all written down and how often to feed.
Do not make the mistake of changing the pups diet right away, this could lead to an upset tummy, and that is one thing you don't want in a new pup.Just keep it on what it is used to for a while until properly settled in,and when the time comes and you fancy changing the diet add the new very gradually over a week or two.
I know things are new to you but my advice would be when you go and collect your pup spend some time with the breeder and ask anything you are not sure about.Don't worry,i'm sure it will be fine.

Thanks for the advice.
Breeder gives all information as well as a bag of kibble when pups leave but I'm a worrier who prefers to plan in advance to know exactly where I'm going Blushing

have a look at the ingredients on any food you want to change to (they are all 'complete' & don't need supplements) and make sure that the first named ingredient is meat & there are no colours/flavours added. I would personally also choose a grain free one.

always change over VERY gradually, especially with a pup, over about 3 or 4 weeks.
