Puppy lose stools
Poor Rebel has lose stools today. Not watery but like cow pat texture. He is acting normal, eating, drinking & playing but I'm still very worried. Should I call my vet or try some bland food first? He's due out in garden for a pee again soon so I'll see what happens. I was going to make him some chicken & rice but don't want to upset his tummy more

Re: Puppy lose stools
Instead of chicken, I would give him some scrambled egg (without milk or butter) or hard boiled egg.
is your vet open tomorrow?

Re: Puppy lose stools
Thank you, I'll make him some scrambled egg. I'm not sure if vets open tomorrow, I think I'll phone & check. He has an emergency mobile number. We have been out another twice & he just peed. Puppy diarrhoea scares me but he is still his normal bouncy self

Re: Puppy lose stools
Seeing as he's happy in himself and eating and drinking ok I would give him something a little blander to eat and see how he goes Laura.

Re: Puppy lose stools
Thanks Ian, I was starting to worry. I'll wait a few hours before racing to vet. He just had another lose one but maybe scrambled eggs will bind him a bit. He is tearing around with a rope toy so he obviously feels ok in himself

You just never know what they have found to snuffle up It sounds like he's happy in his self, just make sure he gets plenty of fluid in him

Re: Puppy lose stools
Laura, have you changed his diet from the food he has been used to,because a sudden change of diet can turn them out a bit.Any change has to be done very gradually.Doing pancakes is not a lot to worry about,it's how often he is going that makes it a problem.

I've kept him on the same diet. I think it's passed with scrambled eggs but don't want to speak too soon. He's so little I was worrying

Re: Puppy lose stools
First thing was a pee only, then next time out I was delighted to see a formed perfect poo. When u have a puppy or a baby poo is a perfectly normal this to talk about lol

Re: Puppy lose stools
I still keep an eye on my dogs' poos, even as adults. It's actually a good habit to get into as it can be an indicator that there's something amiss. However, it is normal that poos occasionally vary so don't worry about it too much unless it's very, very loose, or it persists, or if it's accompanied by other symptoms.

I do the same with Saxon Liz, with grain free his r always perfect but still have a look to check. I guess it's a lot for a puppy moving homes, going to vets, getting treats for peeing outside etc. But I couldn't help feeling a bit of panic cause he is such a tiny baby. Will keep things bland, no treats etc for today, make sure his little tummy stays settled

Re: Puppy lose stools
Thanks Ian, it's great news he's back to normal. I'm sorry if I post too much. I just love talking about my dogs. My Mum is very ill just now so can't always talk dogs. My son's & animals are my positives & I love to speak about them. Every day is fun with dogs, they are such a joy & I just love them

Thank you. I'm enjoying Rebel so much. He is so funny & playfully but such a good little boy. I think he is going to be very intelligent, I can see how smart he is already

Re: Puppy lose stools
Sounds like he has got over his upset tummy, I'm always checking Katy's poo when I pick it up, it is a very good indicator for their health. You can post as much as you like about Rebel & Saxon, we just love talking dogs (as you can imagine)
