Giddy 5 year old
Any tips to stop my boy being so giddy. He jumps all over everyone who comes into our house and does not leave them alone and will not listen to us when being told off. When no one is here just us and the kids he is fine and calm but as soon as anyone comes he changes

Re: Giddy 5 year old
Ah, the all 4 paws on the floor rule is the best advice I can give. Staffies love attention so the rule has to be no fuss unless all 4 paws are on the floor and sat down. Everyone has to follow the rules, not only your boy but everyone including visitors. Ignore him, no eye contact, no fuss, no nothing until he's sat.
When he's sat then all hell can break loose because he's done what you've asked. That's the beginning and once he's learnt the rules it'll get a whole heap easier.

Also, instead of telling him off, you could try giving him a positive reason to do something that's incompatible with jumping up. Teaching him to sit and give a paw to visitors might help, and then to go and fetch a favourite toy or something.
I say 'might' because one of the things about staffies is their love of people - for many of them new people to fuss them is just the best thing ever! It's one of the reasons many of us love them so much, isn't it?
If you do have visitors coming you know won't appreciate the warm staffie welcome, just pop him on the lead so you can keep him at a distance.
