Re: Hi :)
yes fun indeed in the process of trying to get him to use the puppy pads which some times he will go and use no worries then 2 mins later go pee on carpet lol and the biting well he is a biter cant sit with him for 2 mins before he wants to gnaw on my hand of eat the kids feet - how long do they tend to bite like that? or is it a train it out of him over time?

Re: Hi :)
Hi Danzo,
Loving the pics of Chase.
Our two pups will be 20 weeks old on Friday and have nearly stopped biting and nipping now, they were the same age as Chase when we got them we just gave them a toy to chew on when they tried the nipping and they got the message in the end, although I'm not entirely convinced that they aren't just growing out of it.
Regarding the puppy pads we tried them for a week before going back to the way we used to use to house train dogs, the method we use is;
1) Give the pup every opportunity to toilet outside (ie take him outside regularly maybe every half hour or so) if he pees or poops out there give a him treat and loads of praise.
2) If he pees or poops inside don't make a fuss or tell him off just clean it up. (A solution of non-bio washing powder is great for cleaning wee as it doesn't contain ammonia and gets rid of the smell).
3) Get to know Chase's body language, you'll soon recognise when he's going to poop or wee in the house you can put him outside and if he goes out there again give him loads of praise and a treat.
Our boys were a little older then Chase when we started this and were house trained in less than a week, other dogs we have had have taken a bit longer.
Obviously Chase won't be physically able not to toilet during the night so a puppy pad in his crate over night or when you have to leave him alone until he's a bit older might be a good idea.
I'm sure some of the forum regulars will chip in with their methods and tips, it maybe a case of trying a few different things until you find the right way for Chase.
Anyway, good luck with Chase he looks like he's a barrel of fun.

Re: Hi :)
Hi Woody thanks for the info at the moment chase is only 8 weeks and hasnt had his jabs, he is booked in for his first set tomorrow so cant take him out just yet he is having his moments though and slowly it appears he is figuring out the pads but soon as we can get him out we are thinking of taking him in yard right after food and try get a routine going as for the biting well my partner growled at him and that put him off but usually we try to redirect him, ignoring him works aswell it seems soon as i ignore him he comes sits in front of me and starts sulking haha got me figured out this boy has who can say no to that lol

Re: Hi :)
really good advise given by Ian,make sure you take him out every hour, after he has woken up and after he has eaten/had a drink, pups dont get full control of their badders/bowels until 6 months old so make sure when he does a wee or a poo out side you give him lots of praise, treats work wonders too ,gorgeous baby

Re: Hi :)
So Chase had his first injections yesterday and was microchipped but he took it like a champ, later that day my mrs took him to playgroup to collect our 2 year old he has been the day before and was fine but this time he was crying out like man from start to finish and then same in the car to collect the 5 year old from school he literally cried the whole time until we got home once home he had a wee and a poo and settled down so we assumed he just needed the toilet and was holding it but today he had a wee and a poo before he went to pick up our 2 year old but did the same again crying the whole time and settled once he was home, anyone else had anything like this happen with a puppy? is it just a case of keep taking him and get him used to being out and meeting new people?

For teething frozen vegetables are good for soothing gums as is a frozen teatowel socialisation is excellent and the more he gets used to different situations the better introduce him to livestock, trucks motorbikes etc and make all associations good using a treat/ soothing voice soon he won't make a fuss and take everything as it comes..

Re: Hi :)
Yeah need to look into some maybe puppy classes as he has only really met bigger dogs and they alittle boystress for him other ngt we was at a friends and his staffy is huge and wouldnt leave chase alone and chase was getting aggressive with him showing his teeth now i told him no and stopped him doing that as i dont want him aggressive with anyone or dogs is this right? i feel bad as he is only sticking up for himself but same time i dont want him to think this is acceptable....

Re: Hi :)
Danzo was chases hackles or tail raised at at by meaning tail raised was it straight toward the ceiling? A timeout is good for them at this age and the other staffy dependant on the situation where it took place etc the important thing given if chase is socialised well enough may have well been play. A staffy is quite noisy playing.

Re: Hi :)
Didnt notice the tail but it was a snap like to say back off was only momentary and then he just tried to run away, we was in my friends house so maybe abit of dominance to show who is boss in that house from the adult dogs??

Re: Hi :)
I don't believe in dominance personally. I think the other dog was just a little full on for Chase. If a play situation is too much for my dogs I just separate, whether that means putting dogs on leads, go a walk or something. If my dogs snap or growl I just distract & try to make them more comfortable in the situation. It's their only way to communicate to us & other dogs that they are unhappy. Try to keep socialising very positive, pick the right dogs. Puppy classes are good for that

Re: Hi :)
Thanks Laura and yes i am trying to keep him meeting new dogs as much as i can and i never avoid a dog unless the owner states its usually a is he/she friendly then go meet and he is doing ok just he snapped at a puppy other week with the mrs i wasnt there so couldnt tell u what happened but apparently he snapped but he is closer to me so would feel more comfortable with me and behave better he seems to listen to me alot more than everyone else in the house then again they are softer on him than i am i literally look at him now and he knows until he is misbehaving and tilts his head to the side to say errrr ye what u want bro? lol

Re: Hi :)
He is really beautiful. I have a jack Russell and a staffy. I can often see a likeness between the two breeds facially but Jacks have a longer muzzle. Chase looks staffy to me but it's hard to tell without seeing him in person. It's hard to judge size in pictures. He looks a charming little man

Re: Hi :)
Rebel is 16 weeks now, in my profile pic he was nearly 13 weeks. I think you will get a better idea when Chase is around 6,7 months. They change so much as puppies

Re: Hi :)
Rebel is a bit taller than my jack Russell. Chase is gorgeous, I love his ears

Re: Hi :)
I fancied taking up running but my knees & back are bad just now. I'm sure u know already but you have to be careful with pups running for their bones. For walks I stick to the 5 mins walking per month of age. I do let Rebel free run a bit in the garden & off lead but am paranoid about his hips. Hope your knee is better soon
