Thin Fur Empty Thin Fur

Post by smudge95 Thu Dec 01 2016, 14:39

Has any ones Staffy suffered from thin fur? Buddy had Demodex at 4 months took 8 weeks but was cleared and his bald patches gone- he has been raw fed since June and is on complete minces with a few added bones- a few weeks ago I noticed he was a little fat so cut out his treats and reduced his food by 50g - he has lost about 1.5 kg in 6 weeks his fur has a lovely shine but I noticed last week round the base of his collar he has a bald patch - feeling his fur it seemed his fur was coarse all the way round and the bald patch has spread following the line of the collar , so I thought he collar was rubbing, but then I noticed the fur on both his sides is really thin and his skin showing through - took him vets they tested for demodex and said he was all clear - the vet said his fur was very coarse and wanted me to buy supplement tablets to help but I wasn't keen without looking into it - the raw feeding group I belong to suggested coconut oil, eggs , and Spirulina in his food - I'm not sure if it is diet related or not . he is a black staffy but his dad was a blue do you think it could be genetic ? its only just started or could it be the central heating ? any one else had the same issue ??- I don't want a baldy Buddy:)

Misty is practically bald on her tummy. She came to us with bad dandruff but that cleared up with a good diet. I'm interested in ant ideas people have too. We currently give her eggs and lots of fresh fish but I'd love to get her coat a bit thicker.

Thin Fur Empty Re: Thin Fur

Yes I have the very same problem with Duke right now. Duke also had demodex at 3 months and it took months to clear up  up recently have noticed his fur is thinner and
Very thin on the neck and back of the ears. It's not patchy like the demodex was its just thinner all over but more noticeable on the areas where the fur is already very short and fine. He's is fed a top quality grain free kibble
Dukes mum was blue and his dad was white.
I looked for evidence if rubbing from collar or harness but it's not the right place to coincide with the thinning.
Could it be normal moulting and getting the winter coat?

you can go to the vet and ask for a skin scrape if you are overly concerned there are a few options to consider it could be the change in season the central heating or alopecia due to his dad being a blue staffy
