Acid build up Empty Acid build up

Post by Patrick84 Tue Oct 11 2016, 19:06

Hi

I probably should of asked here sooner but we have been managing with vets etc.

Maverick around June time ate some Corn on Cob, he sicked and passed a few pieces and was all fine. although he did continue to get discomfort first thing in the morning and occasionally sick up just bile, he was "smacking his lips" every morning which settled down for feeding.
Although he appeared fine in himself we did go for tests an xray/endoscope, the endoscope saw some shapes so they did open him up, luckily just some fluff stuck in his lining.

where all mended now really and he has anti acids at night and we now feed him 3 times a day the last being right before bed, this seems to have helped, although if the time between feeds is too long he can get too much acid and start his "lip smacking".

has anyone else had times of acid build up?

cheers
Pat and Mav

Glad he's all fine and you can keep things in check. My Flo will occasionally bring up what I would call bile. Sometimes after drinking too much or on really rare occasions she will eat too fast and lose that particular dinner.

acid build up is fairly common after major surgery - in humans and dogs alike.

i think there are some anti-acids (for humans) that can be taken by dogs, but i'd speak to your vet first.
