How much to have dew claws removed?
Hello everyone Casper ripped his dew claw again yesterday and my vet said keep an eye on it but if it keeps happening I can have them removed then he looked on his computer for a price and told me it would cost around £450 - £500 does this sound about right? Thanks

Re: How much to have dew claws removed?
I've just had a look on line Dan and am quiet surprised to read that the front ones are called Fore-claws. Dew claws are on the hind leg... who knew that !!!
As for price, all the posts i saw about this are quiet old but one common theme is that they were done when another surgery was required i.e spaying so that one anaesthetic could be used for both procedures.
£500 sounds like a lot as well, agreed that anaesthetic is included but still pricey. Others have posted to just keep them trimmed and leave well alone. Personally, my Flo has done this a few times and although it looks nasty it really isn't half as bad as it looks and a clean up with a mild salt solution and removal of any loose claw does the trick and all is good in a day or two.

Re: How much to have dew claws removed?
to be honest, that price sounds about right.
It's totally different to removing tge hind dew claws shortly after birth as the hind obes are only usually held on by 'gristle'. The front dew claws still have bone attachment & it's therefore an amputation.
many vets won't do it unless a dog continually breaks/damages them.
