My staff keeps waking me up
I wonder if anyone can help. We have a 7 year old Staffy boy and for the last 20 months or so we have at our bedtime put him in the kitchen for the night with hardly any problems. However over the last few nights he has got into the habit of either scratching the door until someone comes down or making a pining noise. We don't mind too much if we are woken up now again but he is now getting us out of bed 2 or3 times a night which is becoming a major problem. Would anyone have an idea what is causing this type of behaviour as we cannot think of anything that has happened that may have upset him

Re: My staff keeps waking me up
Maybe he's needs to go wee wee, mine always have seperation problems,i went outside the other day and Harley didn't follow me so i shut the door and went around to open the gate to let him in and he was carrying on like someone was murdering him, could it be seperation anxiety for yours as well?
He's getting old, mine always share my bed no matter if i want them to or not.

Re: My staff keeps waking me up
Does your kitchen door go straight into the garden? If so, and if your garden is secure (ie 6' high fences!) you could consider putting in a dog flap! We did that with Bandit & he soon got used to it. He loved the fact that he could go in & out whenever he wanted!

Re: My staff keeps waking me up
I have considered getting a doggy door but considering what is around our area, i soon changed my mind- deadly snakes, lixards, cats and other nasties.
Luckily we have high secure fences.
Hope something helped u with your problem. We aim to please.

Re: My staff keeps waking me up
My old staffy Jethro was doing the same at one stage..waking us up at night. I did some research and put a (human ) valerian tablet in a small amount of food each night after our walk and this seemed to help him. (and us!! ) Also rescue remedy drops are good.. they calm the dog.. I put 10 drops in a small bowl of water. You can also get plug in diffusers that release a pheromone that really relaxes your dog. Hope this helps you abit.
