nipping - Nipping Empty Nipping

Post by Dtookey90 Fri Apr 08 2016, 18:16

Skye has been good so far with mouthing and always stops when told this afternoon she bit my sons back quite badly, just wondering when the nipping calms down?
She always has a firm no when she nips, then she goes and plays with her toys. Any help much appreciated

nipping is a normal pup thing, with the right guidance they all do grow out of it - exactly when kind of depends on the pup and what you teach it.

I've found that overly hard nips either come from over excitement in play and they forget to be gentle OR they're just testing how hard they can mouth before its too hard. For instance if they mouthed another dog and it was too hard and they got told off or whatever then they wouldn't do it as hard next time and play more appropriately

Rather than a firm no, try yelping and then getting up and walking away. this'll give her a really good, clear message of "that hurts, i'm not playing now"
