In general? Why do you feel you need a muzzle?

I used one once and it was only because my lexi was being looked after/walked by my uncle for a week when i was on holiday and she was at the time being really dog aggressive. Most accidents happen when a dog is not in the care of its owner, so i was not going to take any chances.

Just today my partner , 2 year old son and I were in a feild kicking the football and throwing the frisbee for bella. 3 wemon were out jogging at the opposite side of the wall the dog heard them chatting ran to the wall and followed along by the wall totally ignoring my recall. Now they never even saw the dog and I got her back in time. I know she wouldn't bite but would it be better safe than sorry.

If you think you would feel safer when working on recall then a basket type won't hurt as long as there is nothing to catch on, but never use a closed muzzle as they really restrict the mouths opening and thus breathing/sweating ability. I would also suggest using a very long lead when working on recall just in case.

I don't personally use one, I'm not a fan at all but people do have valid reasons for using them sometimes.

I use two, one is the Trixie loop which I use when I'm walking Axl I like the way it looks better than the Baskerville but I ask my dog walker to use the Baskerville only because he is a scavenger and will eat anything on the floor and I'm tired of constantly taking him to the vets with stomach upsets lol.

If she's not aggressive and just needs recall training what about one of these?

Attached to a harness she can still run around, but you can grab the line if she looks like she's going to run off. I don't see the point in muzzling a friendly dog unless as Debs says its for scavenging reasons or livestock for example, keeping under close control is a different story though.

I use a muzzle on a regular basis, Texas has never bitten a dog yet but I think she would. With some muzzle training they accept and even like wearing the muzzle
