In first season
Hi my pup is in first heat at just 7 months. Just want to know people's opinions. Is it ok to leave her in my back garden. I have 7ft high garden fencing and two secure gates to the back first one 6ft high and second is 3ft high.any response much appreciated

As long as the garden is secure then I'm sure you'll be fine. Is she left out alone for any long period of time? If so it might be worth taking the precaution of bringing her inside.

Re: In first season
Ok that's basically what I've been thinking. She's out all day everyday. Now while she's in heat she's in full sight at all times and can 100% not get out. But my partner is going away for 3 hours tomorrow I'm saying lock her in but she says leave her out. But I think il go with my gut and lock her in better safe than sorry

Re: In first season
The 3ft gate could be a problem, dogs smelling a bitch in heat can also be very resourceful. I've seen a staffie scale a 6ft fence without issue, in fact I've seen a staffie scale an 8ft kennel wall to escape their kennel. I wouldn't be leaving her unattended.

I agree with Rachel. Don't forget that any male dog of any breed, including large agile sight hounds for example, will be attracted by a bitch in heat. Even a 6 foot gate would probably not stop him. A 3 foot gate wouldn't stop most dogs.

Thanks everyone. I was up extra early this morning preparing the garden shed for her. All her toys bed and everything are in it. She will be locked in while my partner is away and I have a safety see through door up for when we are home so she doesn't feel to confined and will only be out under supervision.

Re: In first season
Can I just check, you don't mean that you'll be locking her in the shed, do you? Even when you're there? Is there any reason she can't be in the house?

Re: In first season
No most definitely not. She will be in the shed for a short period some days and out most of the time after that. In the house in the evenings and at night. It's a big shed and she loves going in for a play so I'm hoping it's not stressful on her. I will assess her and do whatever is happiest for her as always.
