Hello - New to here
I have 2 dogs one being a staffy. Shimmie. She's 4.5yrs old and last year started acting aggressively towards others dogs when out walking. I have a muzzle but I have been advised to buy the basket style muzzles but am confused as to what size to buy. She is not wide in face. I have been looking at Baskerville but unsure what size and if the ultra is better? Can anybody give me some advice??

Hi & Welcome to the Forum from Flo and me
I'm not familiar with muzzles either so can't help there but have you thought about using a distraction method? I use this when you Flo clearly takes a dislike to another dog by producing her favourite Stix, she can't resist it and problem solved

Hi and welcome to the forum from me and the zoo xx
Not had experience with muzzles myself. I would say go have a chat with your veterinary surgery and they should be able to advise on how muzzles should fit and the best style to go for.

Re: Hello - New to here
Hi from me and mine!
Yes, definitely go for the Baskerville Ultra. Compared to the older style Baskervilles, it's broader and fits the staffie face better. It's also slightly softer rubber, and there's space at the front to fit a treat.
Size wise, it depends on your dog. If you look at my avatar, Chaos, the one with the white head, is a bigger dog and he takes a size 4. The sizing is here:
http://www.companyofanimals.co.uk/product/baskerville-ultra-muzzle
I would err on the generous size if you're in doubt. You need a muzzle to fit well but not be uncomfortable as that will add to your dog's stress.
Most dog aggression, including staffies, is worry/fear aggression. It's usually driven by the dog becoming uncomfortable with others. If you have a look at the behaviour section here, you'll see it's not uncommon. It is also possible to do something about it. Chaos is a big worrier and isn't happy with dogs coming into his space. We're working using a method called BAT at the moment and he's now able to walk past some dogs without reacting. It's time consuming but worth it.

There are other methods too, that's just the one I'm using at the moment and finding effective.
