Dogs and Jumpers...
Long time no see everyone! Work has been utterly manic so i've had little time to make to on here much. But the OH and Rio are away for the week so i've managed to get some peace and quiet!
Rio's chest and tummy have very little fur on them and he shivers and gets cold a lot, I was thinking about getting him a jumper for the winter but i know an opinion is made of people who "dress up" their animals when really i'd be doing it for his warmth and comfort, he doesn't mind wearing stuff either. What is your guys opinions? And have you done something similar with yours?
(Rio also got a new winter coat recently)

Hi! Love the pic, oh the deceiving face of innocence
I cant offer any advice sorry because we have such a warm climate in Aussie, and Koda would eat it off but I'm sure someone with experience will be along soon

Good to hear from you & Rio. He's looking gorgeous I must admit I'm tempted to get Katy a jumper too as she shivers a lot when it gets cold. Whether she would keep it on or not I cant say

Re: Dogs and Jumpers...
Hi ya Kerry, good to see you
My Flo is furless underneath too and as she's getting older we've been looking at coats with a covering that goes under the chest. We haven't found the right one yet as it needs to be waterproof and washable.
Personally I think coats are a good idea in cold weather especially if they are short of fur.
Rio's looking fab by the way

Re: Dogs and Jumpers...
I did toy with getting Lily a jumper when she first came home around a year ago, as she only had her Staffy fur which was very short and thin on her chest, under her "arms" etc, but then fortunately she developed her Lab coat so has no issues in that respect.
In the Lab world, although generally they don't need coats, one of the recommended ones are equafleece as they fit snugly, are easily washed and can be put straight on after a chilly dip in the sea or a river for example. They also double up as excellent comforters for dogs who might be nervous in the car, when there are fireworks or storms. You can also get thundershirts for that purpose

Re: Dogs and Jumpers...
I have a problem with dressing dogs up for fun but no problem whatsoever with keeping them warm and dry. We had a fleecy jumper for Bobbert but he was allergic to it (as he was to everything!).
Based on that experience, I'd say it's worth taking plenty of time over fit. Too tight round the arms can cause rubbing, especially under the armpits, and too floppy round the chest can get back legs stuck.

make sure whatever you buy is easily returnable if the size doesn't work for Rio.
gizzy's lovely and warm coat fits him perfectly round the chest, but is all floppy round his waist so he pees all over it.

Re: Dogs and Jumpers...
Aww love that pic! I have ordered a monkey jumper for Axl it has little monkey ears on the hood I wanted one to stop people thinking he was a thug dog and being scared of him I figured if he's wearing a silly jumper he won't be looked at as scary, who can be scared of a silly staffie with monkey ears right?! I will let you know if it works lol
