Advice needed please :-)
Hi all, I'm after some advice if possible, we've had staffs the majority of my life, we've got an 20month old now who's been our baby from day one and is as good as gold. Myself and my partner had a baby 5 weeks ago who has and is taking up a lot of my partners time feeding etc. But we've noticed the dog now constantly goes upstairs on our bed and sleeps there, it's not a problems to us at all, but it's so out of character for him, it's like he just wants to be away from us and sleep on our bed. Can anyone shed some light as to why he maybe doing this??
Thanks in advance and thanks for reading

Re: Advice needed please :-)
Hi ya, welcome to the forum from Flo and me
There could be a number of reasons for this behaviour. First off, there is a new addition to the family and this in itself must be slightly unsettling. Secondly, could it be to find some peace and quiet ? Thirdly, perhaps he is feeling a little insecure, it's important to show affection to him when your new born is first home to show that he's not being excluded in any way.
If it's not a problem for you, allow him to do what he wants but do make sure he also gets love and affection from both of you and allow him to see the new born so as not to see it as any kind of threat.
I'm sure all will be fine once things settle down and a new routine is established, one thing we all know is that Staffies love routine
PS... Congrats on the new addition to your family

No the routine had stayed practically the same, plenty of walks his foods tje same times. "Walt" the dog really has the run of the house, just whereas he use to chill on the sofa he now heads to the bedroom at any given chance

Re: Advice needed please :-)
Hi from me too!
I personally think staffies are amongst the most sensitive of dogs. I wouldn't be surprise if he's just a little unsettled by all the changes and is taking time to sort things out. I know you said his routines have stayed the same but the whole household must have a new rhythm, new smells and sounds, and they will have an impact on him.
If he's just taking time out to chill elsewhere and you are making sure that he's still getting all the fuss and attention he needs, I wouldn't be too worried but I'd be making him especially welcome if he does decide to come and chill with you.

Hiya from me and Vinnie, yes just seems he is unsettled, maybe the babys blanket with scent on it to make him feel involved and part of the change? Sure all will settle in time and congrats on your new addition xx

Welcome from Koda & I. Congrats on your new addition ! Obviously a big change for all, I would just reassure him as much as possible he's very much part of the family, a few extra cuddles and attention (where possible!) and he should settle into his normal routine again. Let us know how you're getting on (when you get a chance - newborns are hard work, & very rewarding!!, aren't they )
