Humping and aggressive behaviour
Ok, the problem is that Eli is a humper. He has been doing this since we got him at 8 weeks. Elsie would put him in his place so it didn't give us much of a concern. However now he is coming on 8 months he does this on greeting other dogs. With a few harsh words this will stop and the playing then starts. But my main issue is Elsie, when the humping starts other dogs turn on Eli, quite rightly so, but she then gets protective towards him and wades in telling the dogs to back off growling and snarling. We have put Eli on a long lead in the hope that we can pull him in, but that is not help with Elsie. Can anyone give me some advice please.

I'd be inclined to let the other dogs tell him off, but have Elsie on the lead so that you can keep her quiet while they do so. Do you think he'll get the message or is he one of those persistent ones who love the game so much that it's water off a duck's back?

Thank you for your reply Lizp, I took your advice and kept Elsie on the lead and off he went. I did warn other dog owners and they were absolutely great. At first it was like water off a ducks back but suddenly the penny dropped and he started to back off and play, and Elsie was as good as gold, in fact when I got them back together she also told him off. So fingers crossed it won't be to long before the penny drops completely and we can go back to having our fun walks. X

Oh good! Let us know how it goes, please? It's always interesting to know if something works for future reference.

What a difference a couple of days can make, and some nice someone to put you back on the right track. Lizp thankyou for doing that for us. By putting Elsie on the lead and letting Eli go has made walking fun again. Of course he gets told off and so he should, he won't learn with Elsie fighting his battles. But he is learning, and not going in like a bull in a china shop. Elsie is learning also, she is becoming more relaxed again around other dogs, I am one very happy mummy. Xx
