Spike's first walk yay!!
Last Monday i took my little mate out for his first ever walk, and it was great! I drove to a the National Watersports Centre, which is only a couple of miles away..There is a large nature reserve, with wooded areas and lakes...
I had him on a large retractable lead and basically let him sniff and have a good old time..It was pretty quiet, but he was well behaved when he met a couple of other dogs and people....The sheer astonishment on his face when he saw cyclists and flocks of birds was hilarious! At one point he just stopped and was looking around, wide eyed..then he jumped onto me full of excitement...he was so happy!
Since then, i've walked him in various other environments and gradually exposing him to more people and traffic..We also go out at night time...
I'm now starting to introduce some lead training when we're on the pavement..
He's loving the walks and the different places we go to when i chuck him in the back of my Jeep..He basically has his own room in the back and stands on the wheel arch, gawping out the window!
I'm looking forward to some camping and hiking trips next summer.

It's absolutely fantastic watching them experience the big wide world Si, treasure these times as they grow so darn quickly.

Sounds awesome. Would love to see his face! I've never had a puppy but would love to do the whole socialization thing.

Re: Spike's first walk yay!!
it's brilliant!! We've all over the place since his vaccinations....When he sees something new, sometimes the looks of total astonishment is priceless!
The other day, a flock of noisy geese flew over our heads and landed on the lake. He looked up in awe, then sat down and took it all...he literally couldn't drag his eyes away..then the utter disbelief when they all skied down onto the water!! He looked at me like, 'DAD..DID YOU SEE THAT??'
Sometimes he'll just stop what he's doing and just run up to me and jump into my arms licking my face....I think it's just his way of telling me how happy he is...then there's the weird, inexplicable things that seem to freak them out!
I love this little lad so much, i can't even begin to explain it...

It is magical isn't it
The great thing is, it just doesn't stop. I got Flo as an older rescue and love watching her have fun on every walk... It truly is priceless

Aww sounds wonderful, I've never had a puppy but even though Misty is nearly two now, she still gets that look when she sees new things and I adore it! He does sound so cute x

Re: Spike's first walk yay!!
i dragged him out again this morning, but it was foggy and damp.....he wasn't impressed!
At the moment he's doing his nut chasing a football made of rope...little does he know we're off to a new destination in about 10 minutes!
