what food to feed my 6 year old staffy

Hi I got my staffy last Sunday and who I got her from was feeding her 2 tins of pederge I was told to get her off that as it's not good and put her on beta but she don't seem to like the hard food so I got her a tin of morrison food and little mix and she eats that fine just wondered if I'm doing the right thing any feedback would be great.

Hiya from me and Vinnie, all depends really if you want to feed dried complete or wet, my boy is on Nature diet which is wet and they do a puppy one, Pedigree is not good and probs not Morrisons either, we have a list somewhere of complete dried foods which are a bit more pricey but better qaulity xx

Probably keep to wet then I know she will eat xx

Nature diet is a high quality wet food as Inez says, my girl does brilliantly on it. You can order online from Berriewoods wholesalers for a decent price. I wouldn't really recommend anything from a standard supermarket, if you wanted to go for something from pets at home, wainwrights is a good choice, their trays are very similar in ingredients to nature diet also.

With the nature diet and the wainwright's can you put a mixer with it as I'm given her like the puppy mixer wet with her meat

I give half a tin of Wainwrights for dinner with Jameswellbeloved kibble on top & a small bowl of the same kibble for breakfast. We get ours from pets at home.

When you change the food do it gradually so as not to upset her tummy, it can be a bit errr messy.

You can, but you don't need to and it would be nothing more than a filler really - plus you wouldn't want to ruin the quality ingredients with a grain filler. You could mix wainwrights dry food in with the wet food though, which is of similar quality. I feed Bug 2 x 3/4 of a tray of ND twice a day. It costs me about £30 a month in total for her food.

If you have a pets @ home nearby you can buy both there. The wainwrights wet food is as good as ND, so if you wanted to stick to one brand perhaps just get both wet and dry wainwrights

Hi there i would give 2 trays a dayof natures diet and 2 mugs of wainwrights split into 2 meals.

See, I would say that is waaaay too much food, Crystal! Bug has 1.5 trays per day (3/4 for each meal) of ND and nothing else added, and she's very active (roughly 90 minutes of exercise on a normal day, up to 3 hours on a hiking day). How much does your girl weigh? Bug is a cross, and slightly bigger than a standard staffie (roughly 19kg).

My girl weighs 17.7 kg

There are guidelines on the nature diet website, that you could follow (but I do feel that these are also OTT for portions etc). Ultimately, all dogs are different, with different metabolism's and different activity levels. Even a more chilled out dog as opposed to a nervous dog will need different quantities, due to energy expelled by being "on edge."

Try not to complicate it too much, get down to pets at home and have a look about/compare some prices. You don't need to add a mixer, you can just feed wet food, so why not just start on the trays and see how she gets on. If she looks like she's putting on weight, reduce the quantity by about 1/4, or if she's dropping weight up by about a 1/4. Feeding a higher quality food, you will feed less anyway as it won't all be passed through as waste.

Raw tripe wi water based porridge or egg and a pouch of something every few days.

I got told not to give them tripe cause it makes them snappy

Really lol its dog super food, never heard that 1 before.

Heard tripe is suppose to be good well my dachshund was on tripe and raw mince all his life and he lived til 17
