Re: Metal dog collars
I don't believe I've seen a metal one that wasn't at least half choke before. We use leather for Suki and she has never worn one out. In fairness she has quite a few and we primarily leave the lead on the harness

Re: Metal dog collars
Have you tried El Perro? Bug's last around 2 years at a time generally, and they're used daily for swimming/hiking/general walking. About £15 but worth the money. I'd imagine a metal one would tug on her hair/pinch her skin?

Re: Metal dog collars
Millie has one of these (but girlie purple) and it's surprisingly good quality for the money, really thick and comfy at the same time.

I agree with Rachel, I would think a chain collar would be less comfortable, even if it doesn't tighten at all.

Re: Metal dog collars
It's not my taste and I wonder if that's biasing me against it. I guess I don't like chain collars, they send out the wrong message. I also wonder if it would be cold in winter?
For sizing, can you not take her in with you? Our nearest Pets at Home lets you take dogs in with you as long as they're fairly well behaved.

Re: Metal dog collars
I don't have Gizmo on a collar now at all. His tag's on his harness for walks, but other than that I don't bother.
This is going to have to change as last night he broke out of the garden and attempted to leg it down the street...

Re: Metal dog collars
our old staffies had some hand made collars constructed fro bridle leather. they were quite decorative with the brass parts etc..They lasted the lifetime of the two dogs, both of whom lived to be almost 19 years of age...My Dads still got them.
Expensive, but the fact they lasted and still looked great says it all.

Re: Metal dog collars
has iza otgrown her harness col? was just thinking you could use the harness till shes fully grown then she could have a nice leather collar. nice wide collar would be good shes less likely to escape and also less pressure on her wee neck . was just an idea

Re: Metal dog collars
Get a choker and attached a metal U clasp behind the ring to prevent choking or heavy duty key chain ring.

Re: Metal dog collars
If you go to a good saddlery shop they can make you a leather collar that has metal plates attached. Won't break that!
