Naughty 8 week old puppy - worried about nipping and very rough play
Hi everyone, we have just got our 8 week old puppy Lloyd and we are having a few issues. We have a 1 year old female staffie Maddie who is a very quiet sensitive girl and who was really easy to train. Lloyd plays really rough with her and growls and bites (i know he is just playing and doesn't have manners yet) but i don't want him to play like this with every dog he meets, he snaps and barks and is constantly biting our fingers and clothes (which has got better after a couple of days of screaming 'ouch' or 'no' and replacing with a toy) but whenever we raise our voices at Lloyd Maddie thinks she is in trouble and hides under the table. Has any one else had a similar experience or have any advice or tips? Lloyd is very full on and just needs firm training but we are struggling a little. Do we let him play with her and let them work it out and hope Maddie shows him some manners or respect or do we intervene straight away if he is being too rough? His teeth are razor sharp and she has tiny cuts around her neck and face from where he hangs off her but her tail wags when they play so i assume she is ok with it. Would appreciate any advice even just advice on how to train him in general. Sorry for the extra long post! Thanks - tired puppy mother

I would let them sort it out for themselves as long as you are able to supervise. They all play too rough when they are pups because they are still learning what is acceptable

Maddie will let the pup know when shes had enough just check for signs of aggression where you can intervene. Ps lovely avatar lloyd looks a bundle of joy .

I agree with the posts above. Let them play but ensure its supervised so that you can intervene if needs be and give a time out to let things calm down. Maddie should be able to tell Lloyd off when enough is enough and he should learn this.
As you are aware, it is still very early days but you'll get there
