dry food recomendations - Best Puppy Food? Empty Best Puppy Food?

Post by funkyrimpler Wed Aug 05 2015, 09:46

At the moment, my breeder is feeding my puppy on Beta Puppy Food which i've researched online with horror...So i'm going to be getting off that as soon as he's settled in with me...Ultimately i want to feed him a raw diet, once he's old enough, and i can find sources of food...
Does anyone have suggestions of a quality puppy food for the little chap? I've been on numerous websites, food analysis sites, you name it, but i'm none the wiser. I'd rather hear from owners real world experiences instead of anonymous reviews and marketing bumph..
The cost is secondary to the quality.
Thanks for any advice.

thanks for the link..the more i read on kibbles the more reluctant i am to feed them to the little one.
Is it possible to get them on raw from when they're only a few weeks old?

We feed Orijen. After doing plenty of research like youwe changed from James Welbeloved to this. It's probably as close to raw you can buy in kibble. We have looked into raw feeding and I think we're going to switch when we return from holidays.

You can feed on raw from any age, though if you're new to raw feeding I would stick with a raw complete, such as nutriment, to ensure he's getting all of his nutrients while you're learning about ratios etc. You could then move to DIY when you're ready. Otherwise, I feed nature diet as a staple, which I have found Bug does brilliantly on.

well, the breeder is giving me a few kilos of Beta when i collect him, so i'll keep him on that for a week or so while he settles in. After that, i'm going straight into raw. I've got a freezer in my garage that is never more than about 1/4 full, so the food can go in there.
I've checked out various sites inc, raw to go etc and they all do some prepared stuff, although going it alone isn't difficult. The ratio that keeps coming back is 80/10/10. To keep things simple though i'll go with the pre-mixed foods...probably minces and so on.
I never realised what junk was in these kibbles, and the protein content of canned foods is really low...
The little git will eating better than me!

Just called my local butcher, and he says he'll sell me hearts, livers, kidneys and lots of other horrific stuff, for 50p/lb, and he also sells and ground up meat and bone for 50p/lb...Looks like he's going to be my main man, and he's literally 10 minutes away!

He doesn't know how lucky he is!! I'll be pimping him out to pay his way though, 50p for a cuddle, £1 for a snuggle, signed photo for a fiver...job done.

Hi everyone. I've just joined the
Forum. We just got our puppy Luna home last Thursday she's 9 weeks
Old today. She was on Beta puppy chicken with her litter & mum, she was eating 4 times a day as well as having lactol puppy milk 2/3 times per day.her appetite dipped
When we got her home, I presumed this was due to so many changes (new home new family no other pups) but it hasn't picked up the way I would have hoped. My partner has spent time reading up about what is best & has ordered burns & Arden food should be here
Soon. He is also going to try her with some raw mince today & maybe get some bones from the butcher to hopefully help with her biting. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. From Kimberley & Luna Smile

I wouldn't give bones until all her adult teeth are through. Also when you do give them you don't want to them to be weight bearing bones. They are too dense.
