Joints.. Empty Joints..

Post by Rachel33 Wed Jul 15 2015, 13:23

Bug *we think* is coming up to middle age, if not has already reached it. We adopted her 3.5 years ago and she had multiple litters before adoption, so we guessed that she was at least 2 when she came in, plus nearly a year in kennels.

She is still very active and we walk an awful lot, she shows no signs of struggling on walks but does seem a little stiff the day after and takes a little longer to get onto the sofa. Does anybody offer any supplements in the way of oils etc to food? She already has coconut oil occasionally - I'm assuming cod liver oil and the likes would be helpful? I've read about yumove but heard it's pricey? Any thoughts?

We tried Mung on goodness know how many things - he had severe arthritis from the age of about 9 months Sad - and the conclusion I came to was that it was pretty well impossible to tell what was working and what wasn't, because you had no idea how he'd be otherwise. I'm not sure that anything really did much apart from the monthly injections and oral painkillers, to be honest, although at the time wishful thinking tells you otherwise.

What I did find very helpful with Nola when she was having joint problems (aged 2!) was this, which you can learn to do yourself:

A bit like Pilates for dogs, but you do it for them.

We give Flo Nutraquin+ Rachel. As Liz says, it's hard to say if it helps but my view is that Flo is certainly still very mobile and it isn't doing any harm.
