Total embarrassment.
Had such a lovely walk with Bug this afternoon - just us for the entirety and she was having so much fun. Cut to the way home - heading up the usually empty lane and run into two border terriers off lead with very young children walking them. Try every usual trick in the book (u-turn, treats, excited voice, stern voice, toy) but Bug lay down on the floor and WOULD NOT budge, turn around and there's now a big chocolate lab heading towards us from the other way (we do this walk daily and never usually see a soul) so I have no choice but to pick the lump up and get out of everyone's way. She seems to thoroughly enjoy this, looking like lady muck being charioted about the place, whilst I'm wittering about how much of a pain in the ass she is and the other owners are looking bewildered. Get a few minutes away and put her down and a spaniel appears from nowhere. Once again - Bug is on the floor, won't get back up or distract and is looking rather menacing now - looking for trouble. So up the little sh*t goes again, ended up just walking out to the pavement with her under my arm trying to lick my face and tail wagging like mad. Why didn't I choose a "normal" dog?!?! :/

Re: Total embarrassment.
Because normal is boring! that did make me laugh reading about Bug looking like lady muck while being carried. I bet she loved it!

Re: Total embarrassment.
If it's any consilation I was so pleased to join this site this evening and see your post.
I have a rescue staffy who was 10months old when we got her, and is 14 months old now. She is a gorgeous affectionate dog, who I have always maintained is actually crossed with a kitten. Anyway her obsession with other dogs (friendly obsession) led us to feel that life as an "only dog" was not going to be a very happy life for her and so we rescued another dog. Beatiful Koda is a lab x lurcher and very, very obedient. Mostly because he is obsessed with food but I think his breed and good start in life helped.
Anyway at agility last night I was just not quick enough to clip the leed on my dear staffy and she bolted towards a collie that was directly infront of her eyeline and coincidentally being very occiupied by her tennis ball. Tinks naturally bounded up and approached (we haven't got this part of her training quite sorted yet) and the collie was NOT pleased. It was a bitch and growled really full on at my girl and they had a pretty nasty scuffle. Naturally my girl got the blame partly because she approached the other dog and mostly (i think) because she is a staffy and everyone was expecting it.
Anyway at the end of the class ALL the owners and dogs walked off to a corner of the field which was not on the way to the car park and I finally felt that shame and blame that staffy owners feel a few people asked me if I was ok at the end but why not ask the collie owner is she is ok? Seeing as it's her owner who was winding her up right at the end obstacle !!!
I was so embarrassed and ashamed

Oh dear sounds like you had a rough time at agility. Don't beat yourself up too much, these things happen from time to time and like you say, it's work in progress.
When you get a min, pop along here and say hi:-

Re: Total embarrassment.
We have to do this with Rio! He's about 25kg and i have to scoop him up if he sees a cat or dog he doesn't like at which point he shuts up and enjoys the ride! cheeky sod, bet you wouldn't have her any other way though

Re: Total embarrassment.
I have just realised that the reason I wrote my big long post above was the "normal dog" comment that you made. When I got my other dog (lab x lurcher) my mum said "I am so glad you have got a 'normal dog'". But even though Tinks is crazy, stubborn, attention deficit and general much higher maintenance, she is still my favourite and I love my other dog to bits but he doesn't light up the room the same way my staffy does <3
