scared of barking dogs
Buddy is doing well walking on his lead -is fine when he meets dogs face to face although still a little nervous- sits down and lets them smell him -no aggression which is good.
I live on quite a large estate and there are lots of dogs most of which are in their back gardens when I walk him in the mornings - obviously they bark as we go by and that sends poor Buddy into panic mode he starts pulling and trying to run away - I have sat him down a little way away from the fences and talked to him and showing him nothing is there to hurt him, but as soon as we walk off he pulls again - so badly that I cannot change direction to stop him pulling
Once this has happened our nice walk is finished he just wants to go home- any ideas on what to do - he is a little nervous of people walking towards him he sits down but doesn't pull after they have passed
any ideas how I can get him over this -I do not want him to start getting nervous about going out ?

Re: scared of barking dogs
Suki was like this with trains. We played the sound on the computer in the house to help her get used to it. The more often they are exposed to something the more they are comfortable with it.

he is exposed to it quite a bit , our neighbour has a small yappy something or other (very odd looking ginger fluffy thing ) called Monkey that barks and barks he takes no notice of him when he is in our garden its when we are out of his comfort zone it seems to be worse

Re: scared of barking dogs
Just give buddy plenty of reassurance even going to the lengths of using a silly voice, its important you relax the lead as well as buddy will feel anxious if he senses a change of mood sometimes we don't realise we do it the minute he is calm out of his comfort zone take the route a few times complete with silly voice after a few times when hes calm give him a treat .
