Anyone know who to contact for a Dna test?
Hi all x just wondering if anyone may be able to help with how I go about having summer Dna tested x I haven't asked at the vets as it probably costs an arm or a leg if you go via them. I have looked into the kennel club, but it looks like you have to be a member to do so. Has anyone had their pooch tested? And are the results accurate xx thanks in advance x

What is the type of DNA test you're after? Breed identification or to test for health conditions etc?
Seems like Pets at Home do Breed Identification tests -

It's breed really , not that it makes any difference, to her as our dog, we adore her whatever she is, but we brought her with no papers, and at 7 weeks it's hard to tell, as the seller told us she was 100 per cent staff x she clearly isn't , as she's growing up she is changing rapidly, she has huge pointy ears , and suffers terribly with ear infections, she's been under anesthetic once all ready to have them washed out x thanks for the info,I'll look into this x

As above never heard of it for dogs, always thought unless there are papers then there is no way of knowing, but I may be wrong

Re: Anyone know who to contact for a Dna test?
Ah, poor bugger. Zeus has been dealing with serious ear problems since the turn of the year too. He's been under anesthetic in January to have an ear flush and had a really bad reaction to the anesthetic. So I'm very reluctant to put him through that again.
We've been using Silver Water ear drops (which are natural, no harsh chemicals etc) and they have worked very well to calm it down/to fight the bacteria, I would definitely suggest buying some - http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/lintbells-silverwater-ear-drops-20ml-%28online-only%29
I also brought an Aloe Vera plant and have been putting fresh Aloe Vera on his actual ear as the pigmentation on his ear is getting black, this again has worked wonders and contains no harsh chemicals, all natural and only cost me £4 for a plant.

Re: Anyone know who to contact for a Dna test?
I'd love to know where she gets her pointy large ears lol x she does suffer and yes as I mentioned before she too had her ears flushed under anesthetic , but she was also being spayed at the same time, and my vet said its a good opportunity to take swabs and get them tested . The infection came back, and the swabs revealed two types of bacteria which thank god responded to the antibiotic drops x summer had her boosters three weeks ago,and the vets cleaned her ears for me whilst I was there, and purchased a bottle of cleanaural from them, and she has told us to clean them with this once a week to prevent any future infection. Easier said than done , why do vets make this procedure look so easy ! Summer legs it when she sees me with the bottle in my hand lol .
She also suffers with a common yeast infection in between her toes,so we have to bathe her feet once a week ( which she hates) in medicated shampoo. The vet says it common to get allergy related problems, and in most cases the ears and feet suffer , and it all combines into an allergy, but to what we have no idea .
It's horrible to see them suffer and all we can do is try to make them comfortable x
Going back to the Dna test, I looked into it online and I don't think we will ever know , we know she has staffie blood somewhere and we've looked at possible cross with a patter dale , and they do resemble our summer , but when others ask what she is, I'm clueless, would love to know, but guess we never will. I've researched the patterdale, she certainly has a lot of their traits, but each and every staffi I've met look so different, and I guess if you don't get any papers your right, yourl never know their true identity. All I know is, every one is unique in every way, I wouldn't ever change the way she is for the world, their temprement, their unconditional love, and their devotion makes them a very under estimated breed, one that sadly is frowned upon,to some, but for me, I'd never choose another dog as a member of my family xx thanks for your replies x
