anal glands
How do you check if they are full?
Iza is doing a lot of skooshing and licking below lately she was wormed a few weeks ago and is getting another course just in case. She also eats fresh grass and it sometimes gets stuck coming out so might just be that but just want to make sure about the glands.

Re: anal glands
You can tell by appearance sometimes. Try googling it with images,
but be prepared
Just thought I would mention that its not a good idea to let them eat
grass. Not only is it difficult for them to get it out the other end but
it can ferment inside and cause pain from gas. Her bottom might be
a bit sore from where the grass came out and that is why she is
scooting.
2 weeks ago it cost me over £500 at the Vets for Harry (x-rays under
sedation etc) because he became 'backed up' through grazing. I now
shout at him every time his mouth gets near a blade of spring grass but
the little beggar still sneakily manages some when I look away

Re: anal glands
It is one of the most horrendous smells ever next time i will let the vet nurse take care of it. as for the bum scooting... my boy took a dislike to one of my lodgers once. rule number one is never let my dogs into there room as I cant be responsible for the ensuing carnage. but with this guy Marley would take every opportunity to run in as far as he could and bum scoot all the way back to the door then run down the stairs and i swear there was a smile on his face while doing it... that lodger didn't last long

Re: anal glands
oh no - I always thought grass was good for dogs digestion . Milo chomps it down, he even has his own little patch at bottom of garden. He's always loved it right from when we adopted him.
Our old staffy Bree used to love it too. Used to nickname her Daisy the cow cos of it (silly moo)

Re: anal glands
So weird about dogs eating grass.
Stanford University did a research study on dogs eating grass. Some ate grass and puked afterwards, some didn't, some were found to be sick in some way, some weren't. They concluded that they just couldn't find any rhyme nor reason behind grass eating. Or any ill-effects.
