Five month old girl!!!!! Need help asap!
Hi,
We have a 3 year old staffie male (ceaser) and a five month old staffie bitch (Luna). She was bought by another family and then returned to the breeder before we bought her and the breeder never even attempted to toilet train her. I've tried possibly everything and I'm driving myself insane with it, we let her out we walk her but she holds it in until we get home and then she will go to the toilet by the front door. We don't have a garden so it's difficult and I'm just wondering if anyone can help me? Or give me some ideas.Surely she should be toilet trained by now?
Thanks in advance
Hannah x

Re: Five month old girl!!!!! Need help asap!
Hello, think you need to go back to square one. What are you cleaning the mess up with? Are you taking her out to the garden every hour and after play/food/sleep as well as on her walks and keeping her with you or in her crate when she can't be monitored? Have you ever punished her for going to the toilet in house? Toilet training doesn't come naturally to dogs, so it's not abnormal for a puppy to not be clean if she's never been trained to be that way!

Just re-read that there's no garden which won't help, do you have a patch of grass close to your house that you can take her to instead?

Re: Five month old girl!!!!! Need help asap!
Hello thank you very much for commenting! We do have a patch of grass at the front of our block of flats do you think I should try her on there? I take her to my mums and my nans who have gardens and she never toilets in their houses so I definitely think the garden thing is a problem! I have punished her before for going to the toilet in the house but I don't anymore as I know it's not the right way this is my first ever puppy so I'm new to it all! She comes everywhere with me so the only time she is left unattended is at night time but I have been advised to put her in her crate at night time until she's toilet trained x

Re: Five month old girl!!!!! Need help asap!
Hello and welcome to the forum
Go back to basics, every time your pup goes in the house, simply take her outside instead and when she does go outside you need to go really overboard with praise, cuddles toys and treats. Try and associate a word with going...I use "wee wee". Dogs don't have full control of their bladder until their at least 6 months so some of these messes may purely be accidents. Take her outside every time she has been fed, been playing, and when shes woken up. Toilet training should really have been sorted right from the beginning but its not too late. It will take patience and consistency!

Hi & Welcome to the Forum from Flo and me
Clean up where she goes by the front door with a detergent so that there is no trace of smell, they will tend to go in the same area that they have been before. Without doubt try the grass, in fact it will probably be worth while going straight there as soon as you leave the building and just wait for her to go, when she does give her a whole heap of praise, she'll soon get the message

Re: Five month old girl!!!!! Need help asap!
Thank you so much everyone! And hello to you all from me and Luna! I'm going to do all of these things although I covered her whole crate in news paper yesterdayand she went for a wee a few times on there, I closed the front room door so she couldn't get round the house and toilet everywhere(trying to limit it to one room) and when I got up this morning she had been on the paper and nowhere else! I'm chuffed to pieces thank you so much for all your help; should of done this sooner!! X very proud mummy this morning x

Re: Five month old girl!!!!! Need help asap!
Hello from me and Pixee too. It might be worth while getting up in the middle of the night or very early in the morning to take her out for toilet time? The words I use with Pixee, when I want her to do a wee e.g before we get in the car or when I go out for a few hours, are 'do a toilet'
it works everytime. Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Sure you know this one already, but try and avoid using bleach in the house. Amonia smells like pee to dogs and they think it's an invitation to mark away.
I agree with the others about the small bladders. Try and give her the chance for a nice big pee around 10:30-11pm if you can, I used to let Giz out around then and then again at around 4am.
