Rough Playing Empty Rough Playing

Post by b_phippsy Tue Apr 14 2015, 11:27

Hello everyone just after a bit of advice regarding Harley playing a bit rough with other dogs sometimes and whether this is normal staffie play. Hes nearly 9 months and a few weeks ago we noticed he would run around with another dog but grab the other dogs neck and sometimes dogs will yelp he was running around with my neighbors dog which is a fairly large dog with long hair and Harley had tufts in his mouth where he had been playing rough, my neighbors dog gave him a good telling off when she had enough and he stopped but then 2 seconds later he was straight back in for some more playing. Will he learn when enough is enough as he gets older ?   He loves playing with other dogs and has never shown an ounce of aggression even when dogs have turned on him just wondering if this rough play is normal. Cheers

Sounds very normal to me. Suki still plays like this and is over 4 years old now. Just be sure to keep an eye on him and the other dogs body language. A can of pet corrector spray is also handy in case things get a bit too rough or they just need a break.

They will indeed let other dogs know when play is too rough or it is time to stop. Having repeat playmates makes things easier.
