devastated staffy mum
Hi everyone. I have a 2 and a half year old male staffy. We have had to make the heart breaking decision to rehome him. There are a few reasons for this. My daughter is having a baby in a few months and because he is so very boisterous i would not feel at ease having a baby in the house with him around. He is also a very naughty staffy who likes nothing more to chew up the plants in the garden and eat eveything in sight, this makes me wonder if he is stimulated enough. Both my husband and i work full time but we do pay a dog walker but i dont think even this is enough for him. He also has health issues. We are currently treating him for demodex.mites but he has allergies too which he is treated for. So not only does he need a home with no small children, he needs someone who will love him, give him the huge amount of exercise he needs but will also be willing to pay both with money and time for his medical care, someone who has time to give him the attention he craves. He is not an aggresive dog but given the chance he would love a rough tough play fight. Can someone please advise the best way of.rehoming my boy.

Staffs are known to be gentle with kids arevery much a family instead of rehoming your dog have u thought of slowly introducing the dog to small children gradually and in a controlled manner? I understand from your post you have thought long and hard about this.

Hi Tracey, sorry to read your thread. I'm guessing you've thought long and hard about this. Mia05 is correct, they are know as the nanny dog because they are generally so good with kids but you know the situation best.

Please do try your hardest to find him the best of homes as I'm sure you will.

Re: devastated staffy mum
My friend came in one day carrying her 3 year old and he jumped up and grabbed her leg because he grabs sleeves of jumpers and jumps to grab washing as your carrying it through the house. I know he didnt do it maliciously but never the less it happened and we have not allowed him near her or any other child since...this is the hardest decision ever but my grabdchild must come first. I just need someone who will look after him as he should be

Re: devastated staffy mum
This does sadden me they are as said very gentle around children, the bad behaviour is almost definately down to lack of stimlation. A dog of that age should be gettin at least 2 hours of exercise a day, plus off lead time and mental stimulation. Whatever you decide please make sure you have explored every avenue possible.

I'd try the blue cross rehome from home system if I were you. Contact your local blue cross, they should be able to give you more info.

Also - he's not 'naughty', he hasn't been trained suitably - that's your responsibility.
