New staffy owner
Hi, my name is Perri and I have recently taken in an unwanted staff. Long story short, they moved home, took the female staff and didn't want to take the male.
I've had him in my home for about 3 weeks now, he is two years old and according to the previous owners he is 1/4 Rottweiler. He is very calm, affectionate and very obedient, he responds to me very well, he's actually quite attached to me. Oh and he tolerates my 2 year old son, which is a miracle haha.
The first week was a little worrying with him, he came to me very timid and afraid, for example I approached him with a brush in my hand and he ran from me and hid and didn't approach me for over an hour but getting brushed I would say now is definitely one of his favourite activities! He appeared to whine and cry during his sleep at night, this went on for about the first two weeks, every night but it seems to have stopped, he's much happier in himself now.
He walks well off of the lead, I took a leap of faith with that one. He walked very well on the lead so I took a chance to see how he was off the lead, he never strays 10 ft from me, I only let him off on a field close to my home. I trust him, I am just unsure of him around strange dogs at the moment, he came from a home with other dogs. When I'm out walking him and we see another dog he pulls on the lead in the direction of the other dog and he whines? Like constantly, it doesn't appear to be aggressive. He actually whines if he can hear another dog barking? In my head it's telling me he wants to play, maybe he misses the companionship of another dog?
This is my first bull breed and I've had nothing but a positive experience so far, I enjoy his company and couldnt have asked for a better addition to the family.

Hi & Welcome to the Forum from Flo and me
Diesel looks great & those pics are fab. You could be right about the whining but make any first meetings on lead that way you will be in control should it not turn out as wanted. How is his recall ? I ask because although he doesn't go far from you now I'm sure he will get bolder and start to go a little further so whilst he doesn't go far now, practice that recall.
Well done on the adoption, I don't think you'll look back and your son will have a lifelong fur friend to grow up with

Re: New staffy owner
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Ian he's actually been quite good with his recall, he thought he would be clever and bolted for a horse yesterday but stopped dead in his tracks and returned to me immediately after calling his name which was brilliant, you're right he is getting bolder with his distance from me but he always stops and waits for me to catch up lol

How did you make the decision to keep him? It is a big one and you probably saved a life there. I love the sound of him and he looks gorgeous. More pictures please.

Re: New staffy owner
Hello and well done on the rescue. I agree with Ian. You have got a good dog there. Hes stunning. Just remember staffies have a bad rep, therefore it helps to in situations, when approaching another dog, to have your dog on lead like Ian says, so you are in control of your dog, just till you get to know Diesel better. Just remember dogs like humans to humans can take a dislike to any dog just like that.

Hello and welcome to the forum
He's an absolute stunner, how could anyone leave him behind! Certainly sounds like he's settled in well and feels confident with his new family.
